Help!!

so i plugged my external into my mac, then i kicked the cord on accident and it came unplugged and i got this message saying something about how  it was disconnected incorrectly etc.

so i restart my computer, turn it off etc, and it now wont read the external hard drive. so iget a new external hard drive, same one just new, and the computer still will not read it.

what should i do?

i dont think getting a new external drive was a logical fix.
is it firewire or usb?

firewire, i just exchanged the other one.

I know it's late but an app like diskwarrior probably would have brought back the old drive.
