I'll start this off by saying: I'm 5'9". between 150 and 170 depending on the time of the season.

I am looking to get a pair of fat skis this season.

I currently have a pair of 06/07 171 Scratch BC WRS that I have yet to mount due to terrible snow last season. I fear that these skis will be too short for me to feel comfortable carving at high speed and that they will not allow me sufficient float in powder when I go out west.

On top of that I have a pair of park skis ('08 Atomic Punx), urban skis(old Rossi Scratch), and general cruising/i'm-not-riding-anything-near-park-today skis (Rossi RPM 90).

I work at a shop that deals: Rossi, Atomic, Head, Elan, Dynastar, Line, Scott, Liberty. So I am going to keep my ski to one of those companies because otherwise there is no way i can afford them.

Skis that I have ridden and liked in this category: Line Prophet 100, Line Elizabeth, Liberty Hazmat

Skis that I have not ridden, but am considering: Line SFB, Atomic Thugs, Atomic Pimps, Scott P4

Skis that I rode and did not like, not necessarily in this category: Dynastar Trouble Makers, Elan Zen Master, Elan Revert

I want something that is going to be: 1) A good powder ski

2) A great carver

3) FUN all the time

4) Skiable in the northeast trees

Thats a ton of info and I was wondering what kind of input I could get from you guys. Thank you in advance for all your input =D
 
1) Lizzies are good in fresh powder, bad in crud

2) Lizzies WANT to turn

3) Lizzies are mad soft and fun

4) Lizzies are shorter than other fat skis, good for trees
 
any other suggestions? The olny down fall to the prophet 100's is that they dont have a full rear tip and I like riding switch a lot.

Should I sell my Scratches and get the lizzies? Would they be too similar to both really have a place in my stable?

Or keep the Scratches and get the prophets for a good crud/pow ski?
 
here's how i see it:

-If you like a stiffer ski, get the prophet 100s, they kill it everywhere. are you sure they haven't got a full twin? it says on their site "real twintip" and the 179 is perfect length for you.

-if you'd prefer a softer more playful ski, 181 scott p4s would be a brilliant call. such a fun ski, but not so good if you like charging hard in variable conditions (but i guess if you did you wouldn't be after a soft ski)

-if you want a medium flex option that does it all (except nech deep pow), get the scott punishers. 89 at the waist, basically missions with a twin, and missions have been the best all mtn ski the last 3 years.

-as for the rest, pimps, thugs and sfbs will be a lot to handle for a guy your size but if you envisage loads of powpow then they would float better. i personally am not a fan of lizzies as i can't get my head around 172 pow skis, but some ppl love em so give them a really good demo and see.

if it were me and i was your size it would be out of 179 prophet 100s and scott p4s, depending on your ski preferences.

$0.02 spent...
 
wait, i missed that your shop sells rossi. i'd add that 178 brigades would be a great compromise between the p4s and the prophets. and if you were really looking for a fatty, steezes i think would be better than thugs or sfbs...
 
Sorry. I meant that the rear, well, both the tips arnt as high as say the lizzies.

Thank you very much for your input. Much more valid than the above rants about how the lizzies just rock. ( dont get me wrong, they do, but I was looking for your kind of input.)

I'm still trying to take in the 179 and 181 length because the longest ski I own is a 173 (center mounted).

Would those skis in those lengths be a lot of ski for me here in the Northeast with the trees and what not? I've ridden the 179's and they were insane on groomers, crud, ICE, and pow. Should I maybe mount them a bit up from suggested to give it shorter feel and better switch feel?
 
i think those lengths are perfect for your size and if your a reasonable skier, no reason why you can't throw them around in the trees. prophets are surprisingly nimble for a 100 waist ski and brigades are very light too. you really can't go wrong with either of those, or p4s for a softer jibby option.

if you're worried about length, yeah, just mount closer to centre- then if you grow/get used to the length you can always remount further back...

If it was me, I would just keep the scratch BCs and get them mounted. if you have the money though, I would say the P4s or Rossi Steeze. I don't know exactly what lengths they come in, but 180 cm give or take a few cm would be good I think
 
another vote for lizzies. So much fun when conditions are ideal. Ok they arent great in the chopped up stuff but everywhere else they are sick. For a one quiver ski i'd go with the prophet 100 or an 06/07 179 seth.
 
I'm selling those because at 171, they are just too short I think.

Possibly getting the 178 Brigades, but I think I'm going for the 179 Prophet 100's.

But damn, I just keep remembering how fun the lizzies are.
