Help with urban style rails

So as of 2 seasons ago I can throw all 2's off as well as blind swap 2 out. But the rails at my home mountain are all set up urban style from both sides. I like to go up from the right but can also go lip on too. However I'm having trouble throwing anything from this angle or even sliding the whole rail. To the point where I've gotten so sketched out I eat it half of the time. Any tips or help will be greatly appreciated.
 
So basically, whenever you approach a feature from the side, you don't make it to the end (usually)?

So yeah, as 24601 said try focusing on the end of the rail. I think your problem might be insufficient edge control.

What side do you usually slip off of (if you approach from right do you fall off to the left..etc)
 
I find the easiest tricks to do on rails set up urban deal with frontside tricks. When I hop on a rail I will come from an angle so that when I land on the rail I can have all the pressure on my frontside edge, set your edge in as soon as you can and go from there!
 
I come from the right and usually end up having my tails ahead of my tips if that makes sense, then slide of early on the left. As if I'm jumping too much over the rail. But I try to jump on further down and it causes me to be very off balance and bail out either way.
 
That sounds like an edge control problem, for sure.

Try more aggressive edging on your lead foot's heel and trailing foot's toe. If your tails are swinging ahead and you're going left that means that there's not enough force locking your skis onto the rail on impact, which comes from your edges (in this case your heel with your lead foot & toe with trailing).

 
Is this just when you have your leading ski facing up while the trailing leg is facing downwards? For better grip control correct?
 
i used to have this same problem i could never get onto rails and stay on them, i'd either slip out of slip off right away. what helped for me was really thinking about how high the rail was from the lip and thinking about how much i actually needed to jump to get onto it. Whenever i slipped off I was literally jumping 6 to 8 inches above the rail and landing on it really hard which would throw off my balance. If i focus on jumping just enough and getting onto the rail smoothly (not landing on it really hard) it lock in nicely and can slide the whole thing.

Hit the side of the rail and then roll up on top.

Whenever I get on I just kind of ollie off my tails and hit the side and roll over on top then. That will keep you from going to far over the rail. Plus if you are setting for frontside tricks it digs your edge in right away.
 
always visualize what you're about to do. If you roll up with even a little bit of doubt in the back of your mind it can throw you off. Also, what do you mean by urban style rails??
 
He means that they're set up for urban-ons.. which basically means you can't hit it with the rail in between your legs, you have to jump on from the sides.
