Help With Rails

I can only hit rails that are up to the lip of the jump. I always bitch out when the rail is urban. I feel like I'm going to slip out. Does anyone have tip to hitting these rails? I also don't have the balls to hit round rails or tubes. Are they the same as normal rails? Please help!

If you feel like your going to slip out if you urban on, you're sliding wrong. Keep pressure on your front foot and look at the end of the rail. And yes tubes and round rails are the same as flat bars.

if you're really scared , what I would suggest to you is to come in from the side and just try to get your boots on the rail for a second and come off from the same side you went on, keep on doing this but coming off a little later everytime and you'll get a good feel of the balance you need to stay on the rail and eventually you'll make it all the way.

Urban on is the exact same as slide on. It's just a placebo for yourself. Once you do it once you'll be like the fuck was I so scared of? As for tubes and rails, if you can slide a box with edge control you can slide a rail

Try not to think about falling. Go in with confidence, keep your eyes on the end of the rail. The hardest part is just getting over the fear of falling. once you do that you'll find sliding any rail is actually easy :)

I am learning urban too at the moment and am starting to figure it out, it will seem like your skis are going to hit the rail before you even go on, practice going onto the rail for a quick second and go off the other side to help get used to getting in the rail. I had trouble with this and would fall off the same side I got simply because I didn't get completely over the rail. Also, have someone video you to see what you are doing wrong. Biggest help to progress

ok so you can hit rîde on rails and boxes.

I learnt it this way: There was this ride on tube at my mountain and I would just start hitting it by jumping on from the side. Gradually increase the angle until you are hitting it as if it was urban on.

After doing that a few times I tried an urban on downrail for the first time and it worked fine, no slipping out.

So I would suggest you try this, good luck

For me, tubes and cylinders are sometimes easier than normal rails. It just depends how you jump on. Make sure to put even pressure on both feet. If it's a down rail, put more pressure on your front foot so you don't slip and hit your ass.

just lean forward, and go for it. Its really all the same stuff man. You will probably get it first try, and be like "oh wow, that was easy" you will get it, just go for it

Thanks guys. I though tubes would be harder since there's less of your ski actually touching the rail. And that you would need more balnce.

Just hit one, thats how i learned. Work on it until you have it down and you will be able to hit all the rails in the park

It's not as hard as you think it is. It's actually pretty similar to coming on straight and once you get comfortable with it, it's actually a bit easier in my opinion to hit rails.

Mr. Bishop helped me out with this and he told me to come on from the side, grind a bit, then come off the other side. This helps you to get over the top of the feature instead of coming up a little short. Also you're gonna need to carve a little bit into it.

Then what you're gonna want to do is carve less and less and you'll get a feel for how you need to approach it. The less you carve, the longer you're gonna say on pretty much. I've found it is easier with more speed because you have more room for error(easier to stay on if you aren't completely balanced).

Once you learn how to approach the rail and get on, you're gonna grind like you would anything else. Turn a full 90 degrees, keep your weight distributed evenly, and look at the end of the rail.
