Help with new skis "Twin Tips"

Hello, my name is Roger and I've been skiing for 03 years now, usually I go to Keystone;Vail; Breckenridge. Last year I've bought a Mike Nick pro Snowblade and I was having lots of fun till I almost break my ancle. Twisted really bad coming downhill on a powder snow. At least it was at the end of my trip. Now I'm looking to buy a new pair of Skis "with realease bindings" and also some release bindings to fit my Mike Nick's snowblade.

I've decided that I want a twin tip ski. I was looking to get a Salomon 1080 or a Line Mike Nick Pro one, when I saw the Line 1260. My question is which one should I get it ? I really don't know if it has a big diference between Mike Nick and 1260 or 1080. As I'm intermidiate will I fell any diference? Also which size should I get it ? 164cm or 170's. I'm 5'10" and 192lbs.

Also which bindings should I get it? I was looking for the Line ones too.

Thanks in advance

you would need much bigger than 170

yeah dude, you're too heavy for 170 cm. i'd say something around 180. But we need to know what you'd like to ski the most. Do you wanna ski mostly park, powder, or just a little bit of everything over the mountain. Each ski is made differently depending on what you want it for. We need that info to help you.

And i don't wanna break your heart here man, but fuck those ski boards. They're dangerous, look really stupid, and they'll really ruin your ski technique. Stick to skis, you'll be able to ride more stuff, and you'll actually become a good skier. Dude on this site, anyone who skiboads gets torn up like no other, just a bit of advice.

Ok, I decided to go back to skis anyway I want a ski that I would be able to do tricks with it and also make some jumps @ the park. That's why I'm choosing a twin tip one.

I like to ski just a little bit of everything over the mountain but I would say that I like more to do tricks on the park and I love to ride when it's powder.

alright from the info you gave me, I think what your really looking for a park ski thats a little wider so you can ski powder too. From what I know I think these skis would suit you best:

Line Mike Nick pro - 178 cm

Rossignol Scratch FS - 180 cm

K2 Public Enemy - 179 cm

Now the stiffest ski out of all of those is going to be the public enemy. That will be your ski geared more towards all mountain. Both the rossi and the line are geared towards park, but still have a little wider base. If you want to ski powder at all forget about the 1260. Base is narrow and it's a very soft ski.

Last year's lines are available at D-structure USA: www.skidstore.com and keep in mind that the Mike Nick, Skogen Sprang and Pollard pro models are all similar skis with a few flex adjustments... and obviously the EPs are longer at 186. Of the 3 I'd advise you to get the Mike Nicks or some Scratch FS 174 which are solid skis and really inexpensive. 186 is fine for your weight but not for your experience level.

It had to be said.

^ agreed, he's used to riding skiboards. 186 cm skis will be too damn hard for him at first. but he might be able to go a little longer than 174.

Ok, thanks for the help.

I'm now looking to get the Pollard Pro or Mike Nick 178cm.

What about bindings which one should I get?

Is the line Reactor 12 a good one?

Any sugestion?

Hey Elgato what about speaking Portuguese or Spanish?????

I'm from Brazil and I've been in FL for 06 years now, so my primary language is portuguese but at least I'm trying to comunicate with the group.

I'm very sorry for people like you.

I disagree, I used to skiboard (and I'm not ashamed to admit it). I went from the Mike Nick Pro skiboard straight to 186 Pollard pros with no problems. Admittedly I'm quite a bit bigger than you but if, like you say, you like riding in powder then the slightly larger running surface that the pollard has over MN Pro will make a difference.

As for binding I'd definitely go for the reactor 12. Don't listen to people who tell you they're crap because they're not.

Line did have some problems with some bindings but the chances of getting a bad one now are pretty slim and if you do get one they'll replace it straight away. The toepiece of one of my bindings broke within an hour, Line sent me a new pair straight away and I haven't had a problem since. They're the safest bindings you can buy and chances are minimal that you'll have a problem

I’m really thinking on getting a Pollard one but still trying to decide which length? 178cm or 186 cm?

I have used 178cm before I started with snowblades last year, also I've used the Salomon Crossmax 10 last year but just for one day, I think it was about 186 cm but as I'm still learning I really didn't feel any big difference.

I'd say go for 186, like he said^, it's not much of a difference but the extra lenght and slightly extra width will make some difference on powder.

this has got to be a joke if hes been a member since today and only has 6 posts and it has something to do with snowblades

dude fuck anyone that has anything against skiboards, i road them, yea laugh it up assholes, people arent all as awesome as you. so if he wants to get skis dont make fun of him, hes trying not to be a skiboarder, and as for the language, i commend him, its better than the japs and chinks, that run around in packs of 800 speaking like this "ching chin rinf khadql idhhl khkhdalskdhj" or the durka durka i hear all the time at the malls

I just realised that I wasn't thinking before, you said you were deciding between the 178 and 186 pollard...i just remembered that it doesnt come in 178, just 166, so i guess it's 186 then...

Ok, found a good deal on a Mike Nick 178 for $357,00. "A little short for my weight"

Still browsing on a good deal for a Pollard Pro 186.

If someone is selling one or knows a good place to buy it let me know.

Thanks everybody.

got 2 words, PUBLIC ENEMY 179 w/look p12

line isnt that great.

Skiing in NC aint so bad

I hate it when snowboarders think they are so cool because they can 50 50 a rail

i think ur goin to have to throw the blades away, get some public enemy's 179 w/ look p14 bindings, your going to want PE's becasue they will hold up in pow. and park and all mountain look into that ski

Forget the Public Enemies you need the k2 Juvy's. Get the smallest size possible too and then you you'll feel right at home.

d-structure.com has the pollard for $380. If you don't mind 2nd hand make a post in the ski equipment forum.

Yeah, no kidding.

Even tough I've got the Rossi I'm looking to buy a pair of skis to myself.

Does anyone know much worth a "Salomon Pocket Rocket 175cm / 2003-2004" used in good condition?

Does it worth $350.00?

Well I have to get a ski for my wife and another for my kids, so I might leave the Rossi for my wife and I will get another one for myself or the opposite.

Anyone could give me an idea if a Pocket Rockets 175 worth $350.00 or not? 2004

hermano brasileiro,

if your lookin at Mike Nicks you can find some sweet deals at e-bay... just look around for them, there's alota e-bay stores that have'm for cheap.

if your sticking to Pollards try everything! www.tramdock.com , www.rei.com , www.proctorjones.com , www.getboards.com

not sure if proctor jones or d-structures have'm but they are good stores. getboards might have them but don't get them there unless your desperate cus they suck!

do not get the 1260 that is gunna be shit for all mountain. I bought the Line Chronics last year and they are great. but i would say go for a promodel ski pollard is real good. This years Lines are better than ever im buying the elizabeths for pow. DO NOT GET 04-05 LINE REACTORS they are awful for people who dont know how to set them right. But great for people who do. i would suggest for you to go with a Look binding like the p10 and you can find those for pretty cheap.

you have fucking no idea i probablly ski as good or better than you. have u even ridden 1260 they are extremely soft on carving and are a "park specific" ski. Holy shit read why line made em
