Hey guys this is my first year of park. I can go a blunt grab, butters (Tail & Nose), and 180s. I was really wanting to learn how to grind a rail and do a mute. Would you guys be willing to give me some tips on how to approach the jump (as well as popping off.. i'm sorry for this one, but bear with me), Initiate the trick, and land.

*When I hit a jump then in mid-air, I dont have my weight centered.

*When I approach a rail, I end up sliding out and hitting my ass...

THANKS GUYS! I REALLY APPRECIATE THE HELP!

If you are slidding out and hitting ur ass, put more weight on your front foot. For hitting a jump and you feel unbalanced, it's probably because you were sketched off the lip. When coming off the lip try to pop (jump). Not a lot, just to what is comfortable. Also it could help to start on smaller jumps and throw in a grab so your body has something to do while in the air.

Once you hit the flats before the lip, make sure your bases are flat on the snow and you aren't using your edges. As you are going in to the jump, be low (like a gorilla). Right as you are going off the jump, extend. Once you are in the air, bring your legs up to you as opposed to bringing your chest down to your lower body.

make sure you feel your shins on the tongues of your boots and keep your hands out in front of you, not on your sides

poles can help

good luck bro!

Despite the profanity, it really is mostly mental. Do exactly what he said, keep pressure on those shins, and don't think, but KNOW your gonna get thag grab and slide that rail. When I was first learning rails I would think 60% of my weight on front foot, 40% on the back, because I would aLways slip out too.

about being of balance in air, imagine going up an escalator when going up the jump, you dont lean back, you try to keep your body and center of mass right above your feet.

helped me not landing backseat when spinning

When I was learning to hit jumps I too, was unbalanced in the air and often had sketchy landings. Sometimes I would land on one ski first, but mostly I just ended up in the back seat and with a lot of shin bang.

What I found most helpful was popping slightly at the lip of the kicker to attain even balance in the air. Once I was in the air I would work on tucking my legs up and trying to keep my skis parallel to the fall line. Then just extend your legs and absorb the landing. It's more of an automatic response that your body does, but the point is to not stay with your legs tucked up. This is more for big jump; I would say 30ft+. Smaller ones you can kind of just experiment with and try to get comfortable. The best way to learn is through repetition. Just hit as many jumps as you can

Once your comfortable in the air start doing shifties and tweaking your jumps out. I, personally, would wait until you are completely comfortable with doing both iron crosses, nose grabs, and safety grabs before you try a mute. If you have your skis crossed and hook yourself up mid jump, you're gonna have a bad time. Best of luck.
