hey n.s. im writing my Lab Final for Biology right now and what i need to know is how to calculate the standard deviation( error bars for a graph) on excel. ive looked up how to do on like ask.com and yahooanswers and whatever but nobody can give the right way... im doing it for a bar graph like below. if you can help me out that would be awesome

this gave me some trouble last year too. so make your graph and make sure you have your standard deviation ready to go. after you have made your graph right click on the bars and go to format data and one of the tabs in that box should say something about error bars or something.

thanks that is definatly helpin. now i have a general idea, but to set up my standard deviation how do i do that.. i am pretty srue i have it set up wrong. in the above bar i have it set as stdev=(and my data as a whole) but that is not working.. haha we covered this stuff earlier in the lecture but we covered alot of stuff so i dont really remember haha. if u could help me with that that would be great too.

Yah exactly, just always remember that all of your Excel formulas have to start with =, that's how excel knows you are starting a formula
