Help with editing.

hey i have recently been hurt in a ski accident and just wanted to focus my energies into filming and editing. I was wondering if you guys had any tips that i should know. do you guys use alot of transitions in your edits, are you guys more clipy orientated,.... you know just stuff like that. also good programs to use and good ways to upload stuff..thanks.

to make an edit that i think is sick
you need these

Good Skiing
HD (the just look better) for interwebz video 720p is fine
a new song (dont use songs that have already been used) -For example MGMT even though they are cool they are ridiculously overplayed
Editing that goes with the music -For example when a skier lands time it with a powerful beat in the song
-Josh Berman is king at this
- This edit by Sammy C is pretty good too

Colorful!!! = Sunny Days
Creative ways to put your titles into the clips
Different and unique angles

That is what i think makes a good edit

im not the greatest editor but most people dont use transitions in edits. maybe a few. sometimes you can use alot of transitions though and it kinda sets a vibe. take Minnesota Nice for example. they use lots of transitions and it looks really good. and a word of advice, dont use stupid looking transitions from WMM like checkers and stuff

"My biggest advice to you is to watch different styles of footage and

observe how they make you feel on an emotional level. How does the

light/color/motion/synchronization with music effect you? Try to find

some sort of informal grasp on how the human mind reacts to these

visual sensations and use them to your advantage. Ever since I did

this, my filmmaking has not been the same." -Landis Tanaka

Filmmaking is an art. There's no CORRECT way to do it. Trial and error is the best way to learn. I can't tell you how to edit or how to film a shot. Each person is going to look at it differently. You're basically painting a picture with your camera instead of a bush.

this. and when your done with a video dont be afraid to post it up. If you dont want people on newschoolers shitting on your video because thats just how some of them are i suggest just leaving it on vimeo or something. they keep good with the "if you dont have anything nice to say dont say it at all" mindset when it comes to comments.

another thing that goes along with creative angles: good camera work (?). i find shots that have some sort of pan, zoom, dolly shot, etc to be pretty cool....
