Help!! where to ski!

hey so this is my 1st year in utah, ive never skiied here before, and its that time of the year to get a pass. well i know i want to get a park city pass, but i cant choose between snowbird or alta? i like to ski the whole mountain and id really like to get better at skiing backcountry and trees. i love skiing powder. so any advice?

Both Alta and the Bird are sick. You'll probably be happy with either one of them. They both have awsome terrain, but the bird has a better park (not great though), but the park shouldn't factor into your choice since you already have a park city pass.

 
^^^ agreed, if you already have a PC pass just get the alta pass because there is no need to worry about a park. snowbird's park can be pretty fun and their terrain is awesome, but alta's terrain is better, and with the PC pass you'll have the best of both worlds.

Scratch the PC pass, just get a bird/alta it's way better. But If you are hellbent on getting Pc, might as well get the bird. The pass is like 150$ more I believe but the bird stays open untill summer and alta has to close 4/20 (forest service mandates). Alta and snowbird both have great backcountry access, but the birds BC access gates are closed a lot and Alta's are always open. It's a tough call I couldn't decide between the two thats why I'm gonna get both + a brighton night only 199$

if your getting pc get an alta pass you can upgrade to a bird pass for like 28 bucks a day if you feel the need to head over there!

for me im getting alta pc and brighton night pass!

I second Fuck Alta. Ive ridden there the past few seasons and I can't fucking stand it anymore. Everyone there thinks jibbers are peices of shit, ski patrol are all assholes and the amount of gapers is astonishing. Im riding Brighton this year for many reasons. It may not have the vert of Snowbird or Alta, or the park that Park City has, but its a way chiller mountain. All the lifties and staff are way chill, the park has the sickest rail setup, sick BC if you know where to look, and they have night skiing. Plus the Green Pass can get you anything you want up there.

fuck you guys...altas the shit ! the bird is fun too but if you had to pick between perfect terrain with all skiiers and ok terrain with snowboarders...i would def choose alta

You just have to decide what your priorities are. I think Alta used to be the clear choice for people that like to ski the mountain, but it's getting more and more crowded there, and the new lift makes it get tracked out even faster. Things get tracked out real quick because there's always a crowd of very good skiers there, even on weekdays. Getting a pass at a BCC resort makes more and more sense, but I'm stuck in my ways....

I think you've got to be a tool to say "fuck Alta" though, it's a sweet mountain and a great place to ski.

 
well jibbers are pieces of shit, but seriously Alta's ski patrol are about 90% elitests, but some of them have helped me out a few times and are real chill. It's just the old ones that treat you like shit because you have twin-tips. I can't really blame them though. Alta is definetly worth it for the free vert and backcountry access you can't beat 30 minutes bootpack to wolverine/top of grizzly/patsy/rocky point/sunset/exc.

^snowmobiles are way better than alta's slow lifts, but you hippies probably hate those environmentally damaging things anyways

 
i think im going to try and get a bird and park city pass cause my roommate and all my friends are skiing the bird and if i ski alta i dont have any rides

yeah snowmobiles are pretty cool but I mean what do you do just ride tandem or ghostride? Alta's "slow ass lifts" are much faster than hiking. On a side note I love ruining the environment

yeah hate on the other resorts... im just going to ski around wherever i want to. does it have to be a matter of competition between 'big mtn fags' and 'park rats' ??? why cant we all just get along and ski... haha.....

that coment is bull shit... i would much rather ski a mountain that doesn't descriminate against boarders, isn't elitests(that goes for 80% of the people riding there), and doesn't look at you funny if you aren't dreesed like a ski hippy.

alta has cool terrain and good snow, but when you don't know where to go, and and you have to ride fucking lifts all day to try and find it, it sucks. i personaly would rather just take tram laps all day. and Brightons vibe is one of the coolest at any mountain i have ever been too.

and as for the fact that mmany of my friends ride, and i personaly like skiing with boarders i would rather go someplace that my friends can go too.

Yeah they kinda discriminate against skiers at brighton too though, I was there with my friend standing in line last year and I looked around and realized we were the only skiers in a huge ass line of people, the lifty even refered to us as "You two skiers come out" A lot of shitty snowboards hate on skiing.

nick you and your green pass i swear it. it's true though, i didn't really like alta that much when i skied there last year, i mean, it was fun and all but there are alot of gapers, and i ended up going head first while doing the splits into a sheet of stuff that looked like powder, but then turned out to be nothing but a hard pack of ice over everything. that was fun, remember? i laughed pretty hard.

i guess i just like alta more cuz i grew up there and grew to love it. if you were going skiing for how fast the lifts are and how fast you could get up there then yeah i would choose the bird

oh and per the green pass, i was at brighton one day and there was a sheriff up there with a dog sniffin thru the lift line. thankfully i left all my shit in the car that day...
