I can pop 3s easy off tiny little bumps but when it comes to the 270 onto a box i cant seem to get the 270 i get like a little more than a 180 and get fucked. All i no is i come up to the jump with normal speed wind up and pop and spin.. i look down and dont bring up my legs but i dunno if thats it. Help would be nice ill try and have some videos of it after this weekend

Just practice alot, try and get ur head around b4 your feet so u can be nice and lined up for the rail/box.

i first learned it on to picnic tables, that way its pretty easy to land unnatural, i donno i just kinda huck myself around and look like down to see where the table is. I even learned 270 on, 270 out.

get more air. you are probably doing it off of a sketchy tiny jump, so make sure you have a good set up and not a ride on, then do it

jsut pop like in lift line practice popping off flat gorund then jsut pop the lip and spin and keep your eyes on the rail

fellow new yorker here. i tried so hard for like 3 days in a row, and no matter what i did, i couldnt get it at all. i was having the same problem, id get all wack at 180 and stop spinning. i can do flatground 3's but, i still couldnt get the rotation. so, i stopped trying for like 3 weeks. during those 3 weeks, everything i saw when i had shoes on, i 270'd onto. the best are like, foot high, foot wide concrete leges. since ur stepping pretty far up, u learn to whip your head around, and spot the landing, then wind your feet around and stomp it. the next time i went up to the same box, and first time, i stomped 270 on, switchup 270 out

look down at the box when you spin onto it and pop it a little harder and plan on doing a 3 instead of a 180 plus a little more to make sure oyu get hte rotation

dont have your head up..look down between your legs at the box..thats the easiest way to learn..keep your head looking at it as you spin on top of it, and just commit to it

i just learned them a little while ago, first time i spun 180 then the next two times i spun 270 but i clipped myself out. and i had a tiny little jump going to the box. first come into the jump with a wide stance, crouch down keep your arms wide and wind up but dont wind up too much, (and i spin unnatural to get on i almost think its easier) then pop pretty hard but not too hard cause you want to be as smooth as possible so you dont get messed up, then i spin a 180 really fast while looking down at the box, and if you get the 180 spun fast enough you should have time to just spin the extra 90 and stomp it on the rail.

i think the most important thing to do is just do it smooth and kinda relaxed, and really picture your self doing it totally perfect. and if you cant get much air before the box then its important to spin a really fast 180 so you have time to bring it around a little more and get youself prepared and centered with your feet wide to stomp it on the box, and it will keep you from spinning really fast on the box when you land.

dont wind up, just start to twist the way u spin b4 u get to the jump and look down at the rail wile ur spinning

you and everybody else who did a 270 on. It would be impressive if you actually stopped your spin and didnt switch up

i can never stop spinning once i hit the rail or box. i can spin 270 and land on the rail fine but i keep spinning and just nut the rail or fall off.

i just tried to relax and i was doin the same thing trying to rush in the 270 but gettin frustrated and then i just calmed down and just kinda did it i guess but the box was sticky so i fell on my face but it works just jump easy and relax when spinning

ski up to the jump and look hard left over your shoulder when you pop...before you pop, your altready half the way. Once you see the rail , you can bring stomp it easier.

I had the same problem, but like most people in this thread i probably wont give you even a shred of help. Anyways what helped me was finding a really wide box that you wont fuck yourself on if you land 180 on it. Practice on that really wide box and really think about bringing your body and skis 270 as a whole (I would always turn my body and expect my legs and skis to follow). Then once you can 270 onto the wide box every time step it up to the smaller one. But again the thing that did it for me was thinking about bringing your skis, legs, body, and head around all together.

it sounds whaack but the way i learned was just doing em all the time everywhere. just you know bust out a random 270 on onto the couch or something or do it on the kerb. anything like that lets you learn the rotation properly then when you go to do it onto a box/rail its easy as. so much fun too!!

seriously^ man, i learned 270's on before i ever learned them on and i do believe i can give thanks to my freestyle walking habits, i am always spinning onto things and shit

the thing is that you shouldnt "spin a 270" but do a 180 and "twist" your lower body so the skis are perpendicular to the rail. This way, you'll be able to see the rail between your legs like Witty said and you wont keep spinning on the rail to a total nutting or to uncontrolled switch ups on a box (wich is kinda stupid to claim about by the way).

Another problem in the learning of 270 is the way people tend to spin too soon or even on the jump. This MIGHT cause you to go a bit to the side of the rail or to completly miss the rail. This can also cause overspinned 270 that leads to the "I keep spinning on tha rail (boxes)" and you might nut yourself or loose control. If you have this problem you can always try hitiing the rail from one side to correct your position on the rail ( wich works fine and that's what you'll prolly need to do for bigger spins onto rail).

The other option is to wait a lot feore starting spinning to the rail. Basicalyy you'll just got straight at the jump spin that "180" straight to the font and tehn twistthe lower body to lockthose skis to the rail. I know this sounds scary cause you sure dont want to nut yourself doing a 180 onto the rail. That's where boxes come in handy. So you try that onto a box first using that "180 to twist" technique and you stop spinning when you are on the box. If you want to learn them real good so you'll have less problems on bigger rails, I suggest youto learn how not to spin on or after the box before trying it on a rail. Even tho you might think a 270 onto a box with aswitch up to 270 out looks better and is harder, it also takesa lot less control and it'sfinally way harder to just stop the spin totaly when you are on the box.

It's good to learn both ways to do 270 since you cant really ttwist another270 with your lower body to make it to 450. You should try both and getcomfy with the both ways. i dont like seeing "spinned"270 onto rails cause it dosent lookk that stable but that's just me and you shouldnt basethe way tyou ski on what people thing is cool.

So, once you got it on the boxes, you can try it on low rail or higher boxes andkeep trying it on bigger stuff. If you pratice hard you shoulnt haves any trouble figuring out how to do them correctly on rails after a day or two. I teached it a group of 6 kids 2 weeks agowith skills from medium to high and they al got it down within an hour or so. Iguess it just takes some time to figure out the correct motion.

If you feel like trying it out and you dont know if you are doing it correctlyand or want some more trick tips, drop me an IM and I'll do my best to help you. By the way, when you have a problem with atrick, you shouldtry posting vids of what you are able to do so peope could really spotwhat isgoing wrong in your trick.

Hope that it will help you learning.

make sure that when you spin 270. when you land the box is on the front half of your skis so you can look at the box when you land. It makes it way easer than if you are landing on someting that you cant even see.

1.Get it perfect on a box

2.Line up to the rail

3.Jump before you spin (don't push off one of your feet more than the other)

4.Land like you would on a box

5.Finally COMMIT, COMMIT, COMMIT (biggest mistake is not commiting even if you think you did)

Then all you can do is practice.

HAHA i would laugh so hard if i saw some kid standing in the lift line just jumping up and down and hi poles flailing around and hitting people in the face and stuff

man im just gonna take some time to say thanks a lot for taking the time to write this explanation man....its super clear and super helpful

spread the love

the way i learned was just spinning as much as i could before the box, then i spun less and less untill i got the right rotation. Also i start looking over my sholder before i pop

One thing I found really helpful(this advice helped me SO much with 270 and 450s is to sort of think of it like you would a bio spin and get the shoulder that you will lead on the rail with down a little bit, so you naturally put more weight on that foot and keep forward momentum. This DEFINITELY helps with slip outs.

whatever that moderatior said up there. spin, but keep your head down spotting the box the whole time, then go about 240, land and crusie, lean forward and look forward, commit or eat shit
