Help! My brothers are turning into gapers!!

I hate gapers and I can't tell you how many times I've almost crashed into one. Last season I noticed my little brothers only did straight airs and 50/50 fun boxes and they also cut the groups off that are waiting to hit the jumps and sometimes sit in the landings. Whenever I bring it up they say there only 12 and don't care what I think because I don't know what I'm talking about but I've gotten an earful from the park crew about them and I've covered for them for a while and I don't know what to do. I'm concerned they may be turning into gapers and I need some advice before it's to late.

Teah them proper park and mountain etiquette. The cutting off people thing and chilling in the landing need to stop.

But don't be mad at them if they are only doing straight airs and 50/50s. They're just out to have fun. Let them progress at their own pace. Help them hit stuff too.

Teach them how to do rails and jumps.....also tell them about what not to do in the park. Maybe show them alot of videos so they get hyped and want to learn and get better! Some of my friends didn't want to get good because they had fun just going of the lips. I got them to try new things and helped them improve and have more fun!

Thanks dude I'll try but it's like the opposite with them. The only time they watch videos is when I'm already watching some on netflix and I get to the tv first. I tried to introduce grabs like the safety, tail and iron cross but I think they are just to scared of crashing.

burn them

Just kidding. Tell them how to act/get respect in the park. They are just learning, they will eventually understand.

I think they need some baggier pants and a huge ass T shirt that touches the snow. Dressing the part will make them want to behave.

Show them a video if aspen spora when he was twelve. If the dont shit their pants show them Kelly Sidaru then they will jizz their pants.

On a side note I feel ur pain i ride in southern pa. So please save him before its to late!

This is on you not them, I have taken full responsibility in teaching my 11 year old brother the way. He can now spot joey's from Missouri a lift ride away. It's been a lot of fun transitioning him from regular alpine rentals and a tight spyder jacket 3 years ago, to some eagle arm steeze after stomped airs, decently fitted outerwear, and his own pair of surface sticks. Now he's stoked and has been putting in work on the tramp this summer.

Yeah man I have tried and they can spot Jerry's no problem they just don't get that they need to keep progressing. Maybe it's age difference because I'm only 14 so they don't think I know what I'm talking about.

haha I was my older brothers gaper little sister for a while. Show them how to be respectful in park. Don't force them into being park rats but teach them what they want to know when they're ready. As long as they're having fun and not being a danger to other people in park, then fuck it. Let them be gapers. It's just skiing man.

My cousin ben does this when he goes up to carinthia with us we kinda just pretend we dont know him lol

Don't push to hard, I got real stoked on skiing last year and I guess my bro really wasn't as hyped as me... And I freaked him out and he quit skiing with me completely... Caught the bastard on a snowboard even 😪

Every skier has to be a gaper at sometimes. If you like your bros and you want them to like skiing then just encourage them to have a good time. If they are having fun snaking the older gapers in the mini park then more power to 'em. If you start telling them there is a "right" way to ski and be cool they will see right through you and start thinking skiing with you is no fun.

I say you let them hang around on the landings all they want, see if it's still fun after they've taken a 5 to the dome.

As for lack of progression, well, some people want to learn stuff, others don't. Be grateful for it, it's what makes us stand out!

Hey could you help me out by kinda making a trick guide from easiest to harder? When I started park I just picked up where my friends were which was 360s and starting to hit rails but I'm trying to start them with like a step by step. Like:

180

360

intro to rails

and then (what I'm at) spinning on and off rails and then trying to do backflips

Can you give me any tips or break down the list some more?

This is roughly the order I learned stuff in but I can't speak for harder tricks because I can't do them.

Box's:

50-50

50- 180 out

90 on forward out

90 on sw out

180 on

180 on 180 out

270 on

back surface swaps

etc.

Rails:

regular out

switch out

front 2s

ski slide(1 foot 50-50)

blind 2s

Jumps:

180

360

sw 1

540

Thanks this really helps and I really can't do harder tricks either, I'm working on bringing 540 and a front or backflip this season. and how old were you when you wanted to start freestyle?

My brother taught me how to slide boxes when I was 8. I didn't start riding park a lot until I was 16/17

This will also help make their 50/50s respectable
