Help me with stats (whats ur ski length)

I'd assume newschoolers is the sample space, not the population.

How do you know that it's restricted to newschoolers? Sure, if thats the boundary of the research then taking a sample here is fine, but if it's to be hypothetically applied outside of this site, then the results would probably be skewed against the norm. Thats one of the problems that arises with sampling.

Actually, it's highly unlikely that he's doing anything more than basic statistics anyway so in this case it doesn't matter..i looked into that way too much
 
the sample space is the thread, the population (everyone that has access to the thread) is members of newschoolers.com

like you said it wouldn't be very accurate to apply these statistics for the typical skiier, and it really isn't even a great representation of newschoolers, the 'best' population would be ns members who browse NSG but even still it's not really perfect random sampling.

i was just saying that if he wants to be writing anything in the least bit credible, this method of gathering data is going to restrict him at least to drawing conclusions about NS.
 
Nope, its a sample from Newschoolers. It would only be the population of newschoolers if he managed to get every single person to post their size.
