i know it has a lot of miles but i would probaly do an engine swap and put a lot of money into it, im just wondering how much hp the ls has, i know the 3000gt has 3 engines, and its not the vr-4 so is it the 160hp model or 260hp model? thank you

^good question. It would be amazing if seth morrison came to ns to ask for advice on cars.

why would you buy that and get a engine swap. buy the 3000gt with the twin turbo stock. maybe its called the vr4 or 6? i don't remember. whats the details on the salvage car. 9k is probably too much.

don't buy the 160hp, thats wack. get the twin turbo stock. don't be a dumb ricer kid

Your problem with a salvage title is first thing insurance, and re-sale. The car has been inspected by someone in the DOT, but that does not mean it is up to full factory safety standards nor is actually anything guarnteed to be near factory at all. Insurance for me was going to be higher if that car had a salvage title. ALso you can't really gurantee what happened so buyes tend to stay away from it. SO I guess it depends on why it was salvaged in the first place

how am i a dumbass? Your name is SethMorrison, thus one would put two and two together.

If you're going to get a 3000gt, go all out and get the VR4. Frontwheel is fast, but nothing handles like AWD.

3000gt's look great but they are too overpriced. the one your looking at has almost 100k on it and yeah i know you said your serious about an engine swap, but realistically the engine isnt going to be the only thing to go. 3000gt's (especially the vr4's) are not known for their durability and reliability so go ahead and drop the coin on a fresh engine but be ready to fix other parts as they begin to die. depending on the mileage i think your best bet would be to build up your eclipse. if your serious about doing a nice build for the 3000gt then save yourself some cash and make that eclipse vicious. i love the looks of the 3000gt but the non vr4 ones just lack so much in performance for their high price.

is it an rs, gs, gt, or gst eclipse you are selling? 11k is pretty good for a low-mileage gt or gst.

i was looking into a 3000gt, and yeah they are pricey but thats about the best youll do right there ( too bad you cant find the VR6 for a decent price)

the reason they are pricey is because they were mitsubishi's first 6 cylinder production, and were discontinued in 1998 (correct me if im wrong)

i say go for it if you can hook anybody onto 11k, let me know if what model the eclipse is you are selling

also transmission and mileage

Don't get the 3000GT, nobody should ever put themselves through owning a front wheel drive car. Just keep that money and put it into the eclipse, that car has some potential if you know what you're doing.

3000gt is a sick car, but it is not meant for drag racing. It is fairly heavy, but at high speeds, it is one of the most stable cars out there. When you are going over about 120, you do not get crazy shakes and engine noises, so it is good. The problem with the non-VR4 models is that they are front wheel drive, which isn't really fun. Not only is the VR-4 all wheel drive, but it has 10 degree rear steering (the rear wheels turn up to 10 degrees), which is sick. Also, with the last generation (1994-1999 I think), the VR-4 came with a 6 speed manual, while the others only had 5 speeds or an auto(dont get the auto, no matter what).

the prob with a salvage title is like what somebody else said, it is hard to get it inspected and deemed safe, and insurance is usualy much more on it. Also rebuilding from a salvage title is a lot more $ than you think.

Depending on the damange you will have to bondo/replace body panels then repaint the whole car. I good paint job is about 1000-2000. DONT EVER GET MACCO?CHEAP PAINT JOBS!

Also there is ALWAYS more that goes into a resotre than riginally thought. You will have many many engine components to replace, if not the whole engine if it was hit in the front, That also usually means new axles, suspensions, control arms, driveshafts, and a TC, possilby a new trans too. If it is hit in the back the same can apply minus the engine part.

Correct me if i am wrong, but arent WRXs unibodys? Meaning it takes very little to tweak the body. It cost me about$500 to have about a 1 foot section of my unibody on my ZJs door frame to be straightened. And it was barly tweaked. Most places wont even bother fixing it if it is more than a certain degree of bendage b/c it is so much $, so much time, plus the frame get CONSIDERABLY weaker if you dont reinforce it.

if you want a comfotable car with some creature comforts, look elsewere. Also they have open diffs so their traction and launches take a little something to get it dialed.

wrx's and evos are out to much$$$$

these are still what im thinking about

mustangs(5.0 or svt) no gt's

eclipse gsx

3000gt

300zx

camaro's and firebirds

older m3's

also the only thins im interested in is speed and performance for not alot of $$$ forget snow, skiing, gas all i want is power speed and performance

then claerly a V8 is what you want if you want power, get a 96-99 mustang GT, yes i said GT, then put a TTor a big T56ish turbo in it. youll be putting down anywhere from 400-600hp and be running low 11 if not 10s

that audi you posted is high in price. look for one that was a dealer car that has about 100K on it. All the important work wil have been done, timing belt and turbo rebuilds.

The mustang idea is nice cause you can turn down the boost and make it streetable, then turn it up when you want to race. If you started with a mid-late svt then thats good o b/c it has the reinforced block and cams ect

so if i got lets say a 96 gt, 5 speed semi high miles for under 8k how much would it run to get the turbo, plus all the other simple mods. if i got it for 8k i could put another 8k into probaly

if you are paying 8k for a 96 gt with HIGH miles you are getting RAPED! ive seen 98-99 with about 100K go for that much. Keep in mind that after the 2500-3500 for the turbo and accessories, you will put about another 3000ish into motor, suspension and other shit.

check out www.turbomustangs.com/ that site is all about turbos and stangs. read around there for what it takes, and what it costs.

check the 4sale forums too, chances are you could find one that is built well and tuned well for less than it would cost you to do it yourself.

thsope can be a real PITA, the turbos go very easily, but if they are kept well they are nice cars, they can be pricy to find a nice one.

you could definitly get a decent mileage, good condition pre 99 gt for 8 grand. so i definitly wouldnt count gt's out. cobras hold their value very well so its harder to get a good deal on them and 5.0s are great build up cars but most likely youll be looking at an all around project instead of just something to build onto. plus if you have another 8 grand to spend you should be solid to have a very nice and reliable turbo or supercharged stang. make sure to do your research but if you want to look into the supercharging route check out some Kenne Bell blowers. with an $8k mods budget you should be pretty set to have a nice turbo/supercharger setup along with the cash youll need to build up the engine, drivetrain and rear end. make sure you research a good bit so that you can decided just what kind of set up you want. check out www.stangnet.com and www.modularpowerhouse.com for some good tips and forums.

what year mustang you talking, the 80's are so fucking ugly. the only 5.0 your getting is like the 94 or below. after that they are 4.6's. and they are GT'S you ignorant bastard.

eclipse are so wack. i've heard the awd one (i think its the gsx) is ok but its not great. they have NO balls. NO BALLS

300zx, wack

camaro's are the fucking shit but gas will kill, i know you said you don't care but whatever. i say look for a 96 z28 with the ls1. obvisously no v6's and don't make it ricer. keep it strictly muscle. get flowmasters and k&n filters.

i agree with thte gsx statement. modding DSMs to be fast is a chore. It takes a lot to get them into decenet speed territoyry(ie mid/low 12s). They also require a lot of maintence.
