I dont know which one to get. I would like an AGP port for future use but a good graphics card stock would be great. I have a 120 GB harddrive that ill be putting in. The cheaper the better, im getting this for video editing and gaming and of course... work.

As much as I dont like HP's either...I would go that route and upgrade your current system loooong before I would suggest any one of those eMachines.

an eMachine is like the kia's of the computer world, they build them with the cheapest possible parts and you'll never be able to upgrade because you cant work on them

eMachine's notebooks are pretty sweet, but I would stay away from their desktops. also, I would recommend you not buy from TigerDirect, they take fucking forever, and if you have to talk to someone for support or order issues, good luck. perhaps i've just had bad experiences with them. Seriously no other online site has better service and speed than Newegg:

I agree with the guy above...emachine laptops aren't all that bad at all. My buddy has one and it's taken a shit ton of abuse and hasn't had much trouble at all.

The suggestion about an HP isn't all that bad. Make sure that it has at least an AGP slot (i dont think any major pc makers are shipping with PCI-E slots yet...could be wrong though) so you can slap a better vid card in there. Also get a copy of XP pro and you'll be laughing.

Nice thing is that you get a good warranty that many small shops cant compete with. Usually you are dealing with individual component warranties which can be a bit of a hassle.

tru dat about the warranty thing, it's easier to just get a mass rma part from hp or dell than to try and go through a particular component manufacturer.

And actually PCI express / socket 775 is pretty much commonplace for Dell right now, but they still have agp systems too. it's kinda 50/50 at the moment between all the major prebuilt companies. i would recommend getting a pci-e system because in about a year, any pci-e card will be cheaper than agp. you can even see right now that AGP cards are typically more expensive than the pci-e ones.

plus agp is gonna be useless sooner rather than later anyway seeing as its bus wont support the speeds of the new cards.

not that anyone needs dual 6600's in SLI or whatever...but hey let the rich dorks make things cheaper for us schlubs!

get an AMD for sure. much more bang for your buck and I woudl also suggest getting an ATI card. spend a bit more money of a video card the geforce 4 mx cards are crap. ig you must get a nvidia get a geforce fx and I suggest you get one that doesnt end with SE or LE. I would suggest if you dont want to spend much on a videocard, get a ATI radeon 9700 pro. that will be much better then the ones your looking at. other then that, everything looks good. and, my firend just got an emachine. i have to say they have improoved a lot. 4 spaces for ram, and other then that and the case, thats all that really matters when you are looking at what company makes it. as long as the mobo is decent and the case is ok, (which they are, ive seen my firends) then go for it.

yes he will. he wants to do gaming. macs are much worse for that because it is much more expensive for a mac that is good for gaming vs a pc that is good for it.
