go to any university library site, and you will be able to do researches of journals with everything you could ever think of published in them. i'm sure that a health department at a college somewhere has written a paper on a study that was done about exactly what you want. still, that is a pretty stupid assignment and it's strange for you to be asked to be able to find info like that for a gym class.

you could probably do it using physics. all you'd need to find on good is the average arm strength (or find out at what velocity a kid that age could throw a ___ pound shotput at)

sorry, i'm too lazy to help you any more than that.

when i threw in 8th grade when i was 14, guys threw in a range from 20-40

yea but hes talking about the average here. Think of all the super skinny guys who would throw about 5 feet. It also depends on how heavy the shot is.

that age shot put weighs 8.8 lbs for boys and 6 lbs for girls

^ hopefully his female teacher doesn't have nuts, but I won a shot put thingy for my school zone in grade 7, and I wasn't even close to 20 feet

35 is too much for the avg range of a guy in jr high, since i threw it at about 35 i think it it was close to winning meets back then. it has to be 25-30 if my memory serves me right.

That is miserable, why the hell do you have to do that? Do you need to document it?

What weight is the shot put? 8lbs, 12 lbs?

I would guess between 15-20 feet. most high shool boys (Upper Class) do around 25-45 feet.
