i have to reinstall windows when the tech calls me back at 11, but i have 1500 songs that i dont want to lose, so is there any way i can save them somewhere so i dont lose them, i tried compressing them but it didnt help very much

burn a bunch of cd's right quick

if u are re formatting u are screwed it wipes everything

if u can save them to some file that wont be wiped do that.

go buy an ipod tonite and put as many on as u can before he calls.

If its on an Ipod or a similar mp3 (think it works with other ones but idk) download PodUtil, it will get tunes off your mp3 onto your computer. if not, an external hard drive or other storage divice would work but its a bit late for that.

yeah, its getting reformated so i cant save it, i dont have an ipod, and i dont have an external hard drive

in a way this is good,i can start from scratch and only put on the choicest music and rebuild my library with just stuff i really listen to alot

You can make a new partition on the HD and why would you have 1500 songs with no mp3 player?

send them so one of your friends computer or soomthing in a file ( if htis works) adn then have your friend send them back, or if you have a laptop or somthing another computer you could do that to.

you could buy space on a web based hard drive for real cheap and store them there until you are done reformatting.

partition the drive...just go to download.com and look up drive partition software and you'll find a bunch. In case you don't know, partitioning your hard drive is simply splitting you hard drive space into two or more sections of smaller space. So specify a partition large enough to hold all 1500 songs and then have the tech guy reformat windows on the partition which is NOT the one you copied your songs too.

As a bonus, this will be better for the performance of the computer down the road. You'll store all your space sensitive stuff on one partition and all your windows, driver and software stuff on the other...so program performance wont be gummed up by music, movies, games etc...

and because i have to be the token mac-head of this thread

IF YOU WOULD HAVE GOTTEN A MAC YOU WOULDN'T HAVE NEEDED TO REFORMAT YOUR DRIVE!

okay im done

to be the token I have been working with computers for a long ass time.

YOU STILL NEED TO REFORMAT A MAC EVERY SO OFTEN!!

maybe not as often as a dumbass pc user but there have been numerous times i have had to reformat a mac including OSX. i will give macs their due but that was a pretty inexperienced comment

thank you, i am a pc user, but also a well expericance mac user. and i must say that both have there pros and cons. but i hate theses claimers saying macs are the shit and the rest sucks.

i've been using mac's since os 9

and have yet to have to reformat it.

but i was kinda joking about it. so whatever

you guys skipped the easiest thing you can do. when you reinstall windows your computer should come with backup software. therefore you can start your computer from a previous point. all your songs and shit will still be on there. i did it before but talk to the tech guy to make sure you do it right

Put them on your Mp3 if you have one ( as I assume you do) and if its and iPod just download a program to take it off

in a few of their models they were putting the logic board in an area that caused it to overheat constantly and eventually fry. Apple used to make a very good product but in recent times they have made a lot of bad design and implementation choices.

zip all the files up, send them to an internet accessed email account. might take a while to send but ya gotta do it. then just re download em later from the email account.

i have had a pc since 95 that is virus clean, another one since 98 thats virus clean, another once since 2000 thats virus clean, and an xp thats virus clean. im tired of apple saying that pcs get virus. if you protect your shit it lasts.

p.s.

i didnt pay for the firewall, virus scan, or pricacy protection.
