HELP ME GO TO UGANDA!

This summer, I'll be helping lead a trip to Northern Uganda with my rugby team with an organization called Gainline Africa.

Uganda was in a state of despair after it's civil war in the 1980s. The north was gravely affected, regarded as the worst part of Uganda. Sadly,up until this day, they are still not at the socioeconomic level of the south.

4 years ago, the founders of Gainline went to Uganda with the intentions of helping build community in Northern Uganda. They sat with community leaders and members in Gulu, discussing how they would be able to do so.

The north has always been famed for it's rugby talent so, Gainline established their organization, using rugby as a vehicle for improvement, awareness and the empowerment of youth.

This trip is different compared to most organizations and charities' efforts. Gainline is catering to what the community wants and what will make them successful and self-sustainable. We are not going to Africa to impose the western world's way of life and promote the common 'colonialist' way of thinking (eg. Donations of mass amounts of clothing, food etc). We are going to learn from African culture and make a connection between Canadian and Ugandan clubs whilst building community. Though, we will be helping in the renovation of a local gym, chores at a rhino sanctuary and much more.

I am fundraising for this trip and would GREATLY APPRECIATE any financial aid whatsoever and would be forever thankful. (obviously includes +k and a pm from your's truly)

If you are a Canadian resident and wish for a tax reciept, you may do so at the end of the process.

So you want $1500 so you can go to bumfuck Uganda to teach kids how to play rugby?

I feel like the plane tickets alone are probably 2 grand, let alone the vaccinations, security, visas, passports and your place to stay/being able to afford food that is mostly nonexistent.

Goddamn man. Good luck, and don't get malaria

Thanks for the encouragement guys! Ahaha, I'll be getting the proper medication that's for sure

& in regards to the amount: I'm trying to raise 1500 for the trip.

I spent close to a month in Zambia this summer and make sure you observe cultural traditions in regard to dress and what not. Get your meds well ahead of time and be polite. You represent Canada abroad and need to be a good ambassador essentially.

Thanks for the serious response, man.

I really want to learn about Ugandan culture and learn to respect it.

My coach really does want to take it seriously - it's not just a vacationto relax or a photoshoot for Facebook likes. Our team wants to make an impact in Uganda and Canada
