i hit a screw that popped up while sliding a box and now my edge and base are messed up pretty bad. i took it to my shop and they couldnt fix it. you guys are my last hope. is there anything i can do to make these skis ridable again?
take it to a legit shop who knows there shit!!!!!!! They should be able to do something.......... Ive seen worst that has been fixed but they are pretty fucked up!
i would first talk to the customer service at your mountain cause they could help you out because not maintaing there shit isnt cool, i bet u could get somethin out of tthat
ive never heard of any hill/mountain refunding people for damaged equipment. you pretty much sign away any type of right like that when you buy a lift ticket.
haha kinda. when i brought the ski in they were like oh yea we get these more often then youd think. well just squirt some epoxy in there and clamp it down real tight itll take about a day to cure and then itll be good as new. then i call them a week later and theyre like uhhh we couldnt fix it...
you will need to cut the pieces of edge about a millimeter from where it starts to bend up. make sure to cut it at an angle. Once you cut both ends off carfuly remove the base where it is bubbled up. once again cut at an agle. with the file smooth out the ends of the edges where it is missing. that will get you by for awhile but will not stop your skis from continuing to fall part.
i last week believe it or not, my mountain fixed some cosmetic damage on my ski after leaving it with them to take down the mountain because the gondola was closed due too high winds and the only way down was by groomer, and last year my jacket got oil pissed on by the lift and they cleaned it for me for free
dont use a hammer. fill in the gash with epoxy resin. before the epoxy hardens, use a vice clamp to flatten out the bubble in the base, and another vice clamp to straighten out your edge. give the epoxy a few days to harden. the epoxy can be purchased at a surf shop or a specialty plastic shop. the exact same thing just happened to my troublemakers too. TMs have a reputation for fragile edges. good luck.
a good shop should be able to fix it. however, theyll never be back to normal. you'll always have to be touching it up. puttin it in a vice grip doesn't really work. i tried to do taht w/a board last year and it didn't stay. cut out the base and edge, use epoxy and a base welder to fix the base and then put in a new piece of edge. if you're gonna do any skiing outside of iowa you should just get some new skis.
fixing it isnt the problem. he is obviously going to keep hitting rails so nothing will stay in trust me...ive had it happen. just cut that shit off and put some expoxy on it to seal it and than call it good and just make those your rail skis.
If the damage was caused because of improper maintenance of the box I would bich and piss and moan untill I had a new pair of skis
cut the edge, press down the base with an iron, epxy and use that ski on the opposite side you usually go down the rail with but if your doin switch ups be careful
do this. then take it a step further. get epoxy and clean the base chunk you cut off well. Also clean the core area well. epoxy and clamp the plastic back on. Oh, use a torch to lightly heat treat the plastic. clamp it on thight. leave it for a day and then ptex any gap and put it all the way up to the sidewall to create a tight seal.
