help me avoid another concussion

I was trying cork 3s last weekend and they felt pretty good. I moved up to bigger jumps tho and started experiencing some problems. I think I landed one alright so I tried another, this time carving off the lip. I spotted my landing only to see that it was about 5ft short of the knoll, clipped my skis and hit my head hard. I know I had the speed for this jump dialed, so Im guessing that the carve took away too much speed? (the jump was also pretty sluchy) I know I didnt carve too hard, could anyone help me?

when i learned cork 3's i learned them carving off the lip. When i do them i carve way out on the inrun and then carve the other way off the lip so that im hitting the lip pretty much in the middle and not off to the side. Also when you carve you do loose a lot of speed compared to just riding a flat base off, so try droppin in from higher or avoid speed checks.

wrap your head in bubble packing stuff.

Picture a pasture open to all. It is expected that each herdsman willl try to keep as many cattle on the pasture. when a herder adds a cow to the pasture, he reaps the benefits of a larger herd. Meanwhile the cost of the animal - damage done to the pasture - is divided among all the herdsmen....... the herdsmen are getting nervous. putting more cattle on the pasture isnt helping anyone. I wore a helmet, and was sure it cracked on impact. If I didnt wear a helmet Id probably be somewhere else right now. I guess Ill just get more speed and experiment more with carving off of jumps, since Ive never tried it before 2 weeks ago.

yes, as inferno and skiMt said, a mouthguard prevents most concussions. 90% of concussions actually result from your jaws hitting together near the base of your brain.

'can you read what that says?'

'donna simma?'

'yes, that's right. now how would that appear in a phone book?'

'simma, donna?'

'that's right now Simma down na!

also so you fall less, practice your tricks and new ones on divin boards and tramps, because you'll be way more aware of your body in the air so you'll fall less and be able to correct messed up take offs

helmet and a mouthguard...i have to go with the others and reiterate, mouthguards are easy, simple, and absorb impact really well...and you'll be glad when both your head and your teeth are intact

go faster... carving kills ALOT of speed. you can wear a mouth guard. or just not fall. i got 4 concussions in a month 3 years ago. since i went to summer camp and learned how to do tricks. i havent fallen on my head since.

there's a reason its called snowboarding......it's snowing!!!

nah the whole mouthguard thing is bullshit, and im not just spouting off shit other people have said, like most of you who say mouth guards prevent concussions, but i have asked my dad who is an er doctor and he said that not many concussions are actually caused by jaws hitting together, they are cause by your head hitting the ground or something else, so wearing a mouthguard is overrated

in skiing its ur head versus ground deffenately. but there are sports where u can get knocked in the jaw. and a mouth guard really does help that. but yea i was gonna bring up that fact that the mouth guard is basically worthless skiing.

Yep, gotta go with the mouth guard, ever since my buddy bit half his tongue off overshooting a 45 footer.

A helmet and mouthguard will do a good job of protecting your head.
