HELP! Knee Decision

For the past 6 weeks i've been chilling not really skiing to let my possible minisus problems heal. I've been rehabing and stregthening my quads because the injury coulda left one shutting down. I skied tho the last two weeks doing some rail stuff and just yesterday started hitting jumps again, I felt confortable skiing on it too . We'll I just got back from reviewing my MRI i got this past monday with my doctor. He told me he saw a possible or a deffinate small tear in my med. miniscus on the inside of my right knee. He told me I was looking really good, the swelling had gone down, the dull pain I had in that area is pretty much gone, and he could twist my leg around in any direction he wanted without me being in any disconfort. However he told me his opinion from two views, a parent and a doctors, as the parent he told me if this comp was very important to me ( YGO stratton) I should go for it. As the doctor he said I was coming along and I could let it keep healing, but theres a possiblity that no healing will occur because in the miniscus blood is only scarce in certain areas which can leave others area never healing. He is unsure if it will heal or not like I could go back in after rehabing for 3 weeks or even 3 months and the tear could still be present. My doctor and a radiologist both were unsure if it was even a tear they said it could possibly be one but they were kinda in a debate and put down tear to be safe I geuss. Im caught in the middle between the two. Its a small tear and I have been skiing on it, even skiing on it a few days in a row, So im asking anyone, esspecially people with related injury to this area, to help me with my decision. I should also throw in 2 weeks later after YGO I have Nationals out in Tahoe. But in reality more is at stake in YGO. I know this isnt very well organized but im pretty confused right now. thanks for any help.

i had something equal in my shoulder, its not as bad, but i have def. some kind of pain when i land on my shoulder, and the point in time where everything should be healed was about 3 weeks ago.

i dont think that it will never heal, but its kind of equal to your situation. i wasnt doing rails and kickers for over a month now to help it becoming better, so i have a worse feeling about it than you have.

i have heard this sentence somewhere, maybe i read it on here, in my words:

you have to make your choices with the amount of information you have NOW, not with the information that you ARE ABOUT TO GET, because you dont have them NOW.

in your case:

you can start at the contest if you think your knee will hold up. it can get fvcked up, but you dont know now.

maybe, the tendom will tear and in this case you are going to call yourself a fool for starting, but you havent been in this situation (that youre probably never skiing again) yet, so you cant make a decision about that, remember that.

good luck with ever getting in touch with matt. haha you have like a 1 in 5 chance of him picking up

i had osgood shlaterus in both knees, its when the growth plate gets pulled off by the tendons they told me not to go hard or it might get worse, i didnt listen then is spent an entire summer getting to be able to walk right again.... do you think you have a good chance with the ygo? is it worth it to you?

mski you're real dope and stuff and epic and such a good skier, but really I think you should rehab it. as Tess said, there IS always next year and indeed YGO is an amazing opportunity, but you could risk injuring your knee for a loong time if you go ahead and do it. plus, Tahoe sounds amaazing and you should want your knee in top shape for skiing out there.

whatever decesion you make though, I'm sure its for the best. good luck mski!!!!

what are you planning on throwing down at the YGO Stratton? is it going to be a tremendous starin on your knees if you fall or are you just doing your basic stuff.

Thats the exact same thing that happend to me...but i rode my bike realy hard and only had it in one knee...felt like i needed krutches

Well depends on the course but sumthing along the lines of Right 7 leading mute to 9 cruton or critical to cab 7 safty or cruton.

even if you do ski the comp, will you be able to preform to your maximum potential? Chances are the YGO will happen next year too wont it.

I know how you feel I fucked up my spine this year. And I just wanna do the shit i used to do. But if you rush it theres a chance for a long term injury to happen.

I dont know if you should go to the comp or not but, i had a very similar probiblem with my knees at the begining of the season. my physiotheripyst (sp) did some acupuncture and some electric stimulation for a few weeks to get the blood flowing back into that area of my meniscus and it seemed to work very well. hopefully that could help you in some way.

id only do it if ur going all out in the comp cause thats how ud do best, but if u have to hold back anyway for ur knee than its not worth it in the first place

well considering that the YGO course at stratton is WICKED small i would go for it. seriously the biggest table is gonna be like 30 feet. Do the comp

i wouldnt homie.. its just not worth it.. you have plenty of other chances to make it into the big leagues, but you only have one set of knees...

dude, i had a similar prob with my knee about 3 weeks befor a comp and decided to ignor it, i went in to the comp with a dull persistant pain that i got rid of with continual 2-22's (thats pain killers one level down from t3's) and placed third because the pain was so crazy i had to straight air my last run, it still hurts from time to time and that was 3 seasons ago, so if your looking for a answer if its worth it or not, you have come to the wroung place. some people will say do the comp, others will say re-hab it, you got chose in the end man, but what ever you chose, stick with it till the end
