Adobe Premier doesn't recognize .dv files...and I'm currently trying to edit a video part for someone out of clips off of their external hard drive..but all of the clips are in .dv format. i have no way of converting them with any of the software that I have...does anyone know how I can do this and convert it to any other format, or any software I can download to do this?

Did you try Itunes or Quicktime Pro? If those dont work, go to versiontracker.com and search .dv converters or something like that and see what comes up, there are free programs on there that are beta/freeware/demo/etc, sounds like you might have fixed it already though.

www.media-convert.com

browse for your file, choose what input format

then scroll down. choose your output format, click "i accept" and then "ok".

it will upload your file, then send it back to you in the format you want.

i've used it a bunch with no problems so far, so as far as i know its legit...good luck

what version of premier do you have? .dv is just a raw video format, and it should be able to play it if you have a relatively new version...if not convert to .avi

thanks everyone! i ended up using prism and it converted it quickly and easily into .mov! had i seen these posts before I dled it i would have taken all of your suggestions...thanks for replying though :D
