Help finding a new, WARM coat for my girlfriend and myself

So after a crazy cold winter this last year up in northern Minnesota, both my girlfriend and I are looking for a new coat. Biggest requirement is that it is CRAZY WARM! We both had shell type jackets last winter and dang near froze to death. Any help? Suggestions or Reviews? Thanks!
 
get a 100g primaloft or the like synthetic down for underneath your shell, it turns it into a waterproof, windproof puffy.

I picked up a Norrona Prima 100 for under the shell on really cold days and it's awesome. Stretchy, warm as fuck and actually breathes so you don't just sweat balls while you're skiing.
 
Experiment with different layering pieces under your shell. I have lots of combinations that I use depending on the conditions. A vest is nice to have since it doesn't restrict the arms. Sometimes I'll wear 3 different shirts and a vest under my shell. It takes some time to work out the right combinations but you will figure it out.
 
you know, i actually don't know of many jackets that can fit on two people at once. i'll keep my eyes peeled though!

Yeah I've done the layering deal and it does work well but it can make it a bit difficult to move around with so many layers. We go to school in Duluth, its right on Lake Superior and this past winter we set a record for days below zero at I think a little over 70. So with that said Im looking for something I can wear to school as well, the layering system doesn't work so well sitting in class!

How much you tryna spend?
 
Do you care about waterproofing? If not just find a nice big down jacket. Try a few and see how much full you think your going to want to stay warm.

so many serious responses, only light-hearted jokes, no girlfriend remarks, successful thread so far.

Idk if this helps but there are a few parkas floating around in BST as of right now.. like for example Kyle Decker was selling TW's Large black North Face parka, which is probably pretty warm. (sorry if I misread and they have to be new/this doesn't help)
 
Hoping on the Orage train...

I wear it all the time and can honestly say my core or arms have never been cold when wearing this jacket (MTL winters, etc). Plus it's water proof, 20k. Also, it looks like Orage has some new stuff this year too.
 
I'm always a fan of stuff I can use in the mountains too. Check out Rab Nutrino jackets, Marmot Greenland Baffled, Mountain Hardwear Chillwave. All super warm & light for climbing and winter use
 
A waterproof hardshell is never a bad idea, esecially if you're a more aggressive skier. I wouldn't recommend buying a super insulated jacket thats not very waterproof or breathable.

The trick is figuring out how to layer underneath a hardshell to keep yourself warm. If your jacket is sufficiently waterproof, it may work if you have room to layer underneath. You will probably need to invest in a substantial down or snythetic mid layer, and if you don't already have a synthetic, wicking base layer I would sugest that too.
