Help decide my next purchase.

So I'm stuck between purchasing a flash attachment or a new lens (probably a 70-200 f/4) for my T1i. I already got a nice monopod that suffices for good pictures.

Flash attachment - I do a lot of night shooting since I ski after school so quicker shots with flash is definitely a plus for me.

Lens - Of course the fact of broadening my shots with new lenses is obvious. But also put to mind that I will also be filming too, so that may sway the decision.

If you guys recommend anything else like other accessories or a different lens, let me know! Thanks.

Yeah for sure. Nothing different from what I described pretty much. Just the T1i with the stock lens 18-55 and have a case and a monopod.

The kids on here are most likely recommend the Tokina 11-16 f2.8 and the 70-200 f4. i'd say glass over strobes at the moment. But if you do want strobes, look into the Vivitar 285hv or Yongnuo speedlights, i've heard good thins about those.

I know. Tamron 17-50 f2.8, a lens that i actually own. great piece of glass but they do tend to vary in sharpness by model. I'd absolutely recommend this.

If you can find a used Nikon SB-26 or -28, those are both excellent flashes. At this point, I would purchase a flash if I were you- yes, lenses broaden your perspective range and give you a whole new set of angles to shoot from, but a single well placed flash used by someone who knows what to do with it can make a photograph infinitely better.

Lighting gear and the knowledge to use it is the cheapest way to improve your photos (not counting things that are free like inspiration, creativity, etc.).

www.strobist.com is an excellent place to start for knowledge.

As far as lenses go, dude up there was totally right— NS probably will suggest the Tokina 11-16f/2.8 and a 70-200f/4. I know I love my 11-16 and recommend it all over the place.
