Help choosing a mountain bike

im sure a few people here now a thing or two about mountain bikes, and im in the market for a new one. i have a fair amount of money to spend (about 1000-1400) but i dont need to spend it all. i am about 5'1 and 135 pounds, average strength and have been mountain biking for a few years now. i am looking for a light, but strong hardtail(front shocks only) bike. i wont be taking it off any massive drops or anything like that, and i mainly ride on hilly forest trails(not to technical)

ok, thanks alot for any of your help. also, if you have a bike for sale, feel free to message me about it.

do u know a lot about bikes?cus u should just build one. i am in the process of puting togeather my bike.the frame isnt the greatest but i have mostly shimano lx components, and some good rock sox. and it only cost me around 600 to build.

Just go to your local bike shop and or bkie shops and just ask them what you want and they will set you up and screw them and go get it on e bay

but look into cannondale F800 or 1200 if you want a x country and they are very light and will climb like a dream

Don't get the head shox

Ok dude. Get a Planet X Ridgeback. Right now, from the factory in Cali, you get that frame, and a 125 vanilla RLC all for 500 dollars. Spend the rest on a build. It is so fucking worth it dude.

After you get an idea of a type of bike you want keep and eye on Pinkbike.com. They have this wicked good buy sell forum, if you watch it routinely you can get a good deal on a good bike. Just make sure to ask for pics of the welds and shit oh and make sure the bike has no dents. A scratch or dent by a weld can weaken the strength of the frame.

Norco is bad. you should look at hardtail crosscountry bikes. kona has some good cheep ones. the size of bike is different for each manufacturer. ask a salsmen at your local bike shop, or look at the charts on the manufacturers website. also pinkbike.com is a good website. it is the newschoolers of biking.

you could also ask R.C.

geta norco or a specialized p3. norco has a couple good choices. also the santacruz jackal and chameleon are sick bikes

ATOMIC STEELHEAD, (frame only) strong as shit on a winter morn. For about $300-$500 so even if you dont have too much dough, you can still buy a bunch of neato parts for it. Its a gnarly freeride/dirt jumper/street/everything. Either the Steelhead, or a .243 racing frame, they have 3 frames this year, that are also gargantuonly strong for about $600.

And they are black.

If you just plan to do trail riding and not much jumping just get a pure XC bike. I am a fan of trek and giant. Check out the trek 8000 and the Giant XTC. if you have 1400 to spend on a bike purchase. Spend 1100 on the bike and the rest on gloves, shoes, peddles, a tits helmet and some baggy bike shorts. I recommend a Giro E2 helmet. It is just an awsome helmet that is one of there most popular. Peddles: Time atac or Crank brother's egg beaters. Shoes: Sidi dominators, Diadora chillis and Specialized comps or sports. Most importantly, make sure you get a bike that fits your needs. You can do some jumping and aggressive riding on a XC bike. As cool as free ride bikes are, dont buy one if you are going tojust ride trails. You can move into that later

i have a steelhead and i love it.

frozen spermy pops isnt really food. more like an appetizer before atlantaski's mom takes a huge dump on his dads face then he comes in and sticks in the dick in the shit while his mom sucks him off. now that would be the most hardcore ass to mouth in

Check out mtbr.com, it has reviews of just about every bike and component out. It helps a lot when your trying to get a new bike.

go to www.ridemonkey.com ... the people that post on pinkbike are childish and Ridemonkey has more pros and the actual bike company reps. People take it more serious there. So head over there and try it out... but be serious.

Well if your only 5'1, probably the smallest frame you can get is a 13 or 14 inch. I'm 5'6 my frame is 14inch, but its an urban, freestyle bike. And since your not hardcore into anything, go with something not super expensive, and something not to tech.

I think like Specialized Hardrock pro, or a norco Bigfoot. Something on those lines.

well every bike is over priced especially high end ones. does it really cost 3000 dollers to make a frame of tubes and welds? you can buy dirt bikes for less than mountian bikes. bikes are made to make money sadly there arnt many comapnies that are all riders and sell them for not to make millions but to make enough money to ride but still make quailty bikes.

i knwo there are some that put out quality bikes fo decent prices but im talkign abotu big companies (specialized, norco, kona giant)

fuck you guys are gay. Norco and Specialized? shit, no. 3 frame choices. Santa cruz chamelion, azonic DS1 or Eveolution or steelhead, or planet x ridgeback. ok maybe 5 but still.

trek makes a good hard tail, i have the 4900, it rides well

the p.3 is NOT meant for serious trail riding, and it is not reallly light. Its an awesome bike, but not what he's looking for. My friend has one and i love riding it for fooling around but, as with the chase, they just aren't meant for what he wants. if your willing look for a xc bike with a lockout rear shock. the scalpel's from cannondale would probably suit you well, but they're expensive. before you go to a shop just do some research on the bikes and components, because i work at a bike shop and i know firsthand that we can just throw out shit info to people to get them to buy the more expensive bike, and it almost always works

obivously most of you guys dont know shit, the best kind of mountain bike you can buy is a trek mountain bike its the best, no comparison

You want to get a Giant XTC. One of the best deals for a stock hardtail mountain bike. Where do you live? I'm thinking of selling mine that is two years old.
