Help: BIG quiver rounding ski

Hey guys. I have a chance to get any 06/07 K2, Dynastar, Atomic, Blizzard, Head, Nordica, Armada, Liberty, or Volkl ski for cheap. I'm 5'9", 130lbs and an agressive expert skier. I currently own AR5s in a 170(park/urban), Titan 9.2s in a 181(resort everyday), and 178 EXP Pros(shitty touring skis). Now I'm in need of a big ski for charging big mtn lines, pow, and basically just going big in places like Squaw, Utah, and Krasnya. I'm currently trying to get together a film and competing in several big mountain comps next year. So far what have sparked a little interest have been the:

Dynastar Legend Pros 176, 186( 186 may be too much ski, but 176 may not be enough???a little help?)

Atomic Thug 181cm(HUGE..maybe to huge?but my favorite right now)

Volkl Gotamas 183cm(Increased side cut may suck)

K2 Seth Vicious 179cm(May not be enough)

K2 Maden 179,189cm(May be to soft. Not stable enough)

Volkl Sumo 175cm(May be too much sidecut, or not stable enough)

Head Mojo 105( Similar to Gotama in shape, but softer? Can anyone confirm?)

I know its quite a bit, but I have not got a chance to demo any 06/07 skis this year.If any questions could be answered that would be helpful. Thanks guys. I'll make sure to post a review and pics of the new skis!

I vote for the Thug or the Mojo 105.

As for your question about Mojo flex versus the Gots. I'd put them in a similar category. The tips of the Mojo seem to 'surf' better, but I find they track better in crud too and don't deflect as much as the Gots. Mind you my comparison is using this year's Gots as I haven't skied next year's yet.

This is what Rex said "PY Leblanc said they're the best Pow ski he's ever skied! I love em! they're in a 181 or 192 but they ski a bit shorter than that. Sandwich construction and not super stiff but not Soft by any means"

word from people who have skied the new Gotamas are they are actually much better, even with the slight increase in sidecut. They made them about 10% stiffer and everybody who has skied them has liked them.

I think the thug or 105 are great choices.

If you want the best...go custom.

=)

The reason I'm having to settle on all customs is cause I need....NEED to stop buying skis.

I seriously...seriously have a problem with it.

So...I figure if I buy all customs I will be satisfied enough to stop.

I made a bet with my mom that I, once my quiver is done, will no buy new skis by the time I graduate (2008).

She thinks I have no chance.

Seriously....i really need those El Jefe to get here.

They were supposed to arrive mid feb. I have no skis right now(park and touring dont count).

But to make you more jealous....

El Jefe arriving soon (Hopefully)

New FFFs arriving soon (2nd week of march, hopefully)

and....

Im about to order a Capital BMT and a Igneous FFGS (for touring).

MUAHAHAHAHAHA.

dude you better not get the light topsheet on the BMTs. that's what i'm getting.

what flex are you going for?

and what core?

The Seth Vicious are too soft for the pow I find (I am pretty similar height and weight to you). My mate skis the 186 Legend Pros and he loves them (he is again similar weight and height to you). If I were you I would go with the Pros, I wish I had.

pretty sure I'm getting them in the light topsheet (only because my el jefe are dark).

If the dark is super super sick I amy stick with it.

flex - Not sure. Probably similar to el jefe. Medium in the tip, stiff underfoot, medium stiff in the tail.

Core - go with the maple for sure.

Ash is super super damp, and I like my ski to be somewhat responsive.

Biggest difference is weight.

El Jefe w/ maple core = 4.5 pounds per ski.

El Jefe w/ ash core = 5.5 pounds per ski.

If they are going to ski similar why have that extra pound?

and to the kid who started this thread....

You should get the 190 Sumo.

That ski is going to fucking kill it.

Can anybody say whether they think the 186 Legends will be too much? The 176 seems too small. The 190 Sumo seems to big for me. Capitals are not really an option. If i could I would get them. Thugs seem almost perfect.Anyone think theyre too wide?

The 186 Legends are a whole lot of ski to handle. If you're really aggressive for your size you should be fine, but demo a pair if you can to make sure. They're definitely a kick ass big mountain ski though, I'd recommend at least considering them.

il have the same skis are luke too (FFF).

also....the idea of him getting a BMT is out there as well.

he needs something bigger than the BMT.

something like 198 cm and 125 underfoot. barely any sidecut, and stiff enough to make ANTs look soft.

ahahaha.

some other ideas:

Salomon AK rocket (dunno where you can get them tho)

Movement powpow swallow

volkl sanouk

rossi bandint b squad

Zag freeride gold

atomic big daddy

most of the skis you named are more bc freestyle, eg sumo, thug- these are all out and out freeride skis. super stiff and very stable at warp speed- the first three have swallow so superd for super g turns.

i'm english- i don't know how heavy 130lbs is. anyway, dood-he's talking about sumos:some of the biggest skis there are. furthermore, he says his favorite was legend pro- b4 or b squad is almost identical. your point is valid about ak rockets as they don't come in less than 190, but i was just brainstorming some specialist freeride skis that would work in big mountain comps, i.e not skis like sumo...

i believe he said his favorite were the thugs. have you skied the b4 or legend pros? i have a funny feeling that the legends are a much burlier/stiffer ski

ya he said that, but of the actual freeride skis he mentioned, legend pro was fave. yr right, pro is burlier than b4, but b squad is fatter and stiffer.

still think he should go for ak rocket. the stiffest, stablest, burliest ski there is. full stop.

iggy, how much has your quiver cost you? and what if you break a pair?? shit, i broke my pistols and just about cried

do you really want to know? It is pretty fucking sad. I am spending everything I have to get this quiver done...

It isn't all paid for yet either.

If they break????

They are capitals and igneous. Break? Please. Igneous and Capital make the most durable skis in the world, no question.

and if they do, both those companies will be more than happy to help you out.

cost now...

well, the seth pistols are a few years old and just have scratch 100 bindings. So, they weren't too much.

By ski/binding:

Igneous FFF 240 ($1100) + s916 ($145 - thanks BC.com)

Igneous FFGS 220 ($1000) + Nx21 ($325 - thanks tp.com)

Capital BMT ($775) + s916 ($135)

Capital El Jefe ($775) + s916 (came with older FFFs)

I really dont want to add that all up.

El Jefe, new FFFs, nx21, and all s916 are all paid for.

Only have the FFGS and BMT to still pay for.

Few other things too (new skins for FFGS) will probably need to be bought too.

but basically....a lot. Enough that I wont be able to buy more skis.

Currently trying to decide if I want to go with the Iggy FFGS or a complete custom from capital as a touring ski (basically same price).

I think I want the iggies just cause they are so so so amazing.

I need this to all happen so I stop obsessing over it.
