Help bid for the 2022 World cup to be in the US

the qatari bid is ridiculous...
it makes no sense to me... its going to be 110 degrees out (or 45 depending on where you live), alcohol might not be allowed (least to UK and US levels - or even Russian levels), and in a country where they really only have one city... and less than 2 million people in the whole place...

that was only a south african thing. watch any european matches, and its entirely gone.

though im sure in the US the vuvuzelas would make a comeback, because some idiot would realize he could sell them for $5 and ruin the world cup.

I wouldn't be surprised if qatar somehow manages to do an incredible world cup. Don't know why, but I just think they could pull it off. They certainly have the money.

such an awful decision....both Australia and the US are better than Qatar.....I've never even heard of Qatar until now

I'm not sure you should be proud of that.

It's because of people like you that I was rooting against the American bid.

Get educated, seriously.

The Qatar announcement is ridiculous. Who even knows what the political climate will be in the Middle East come 2022. I would have much rather have seen the bid go to Australia, they also have never hosted and actually have a decent soccer team. And it would have expanded the World Cup to 6 continents for the first time.

I can just never get into soccer, something about a bunch of guys doing a cardio workout and kicking a ball sometimes just doesn't appeal.

America isn't ready for a world cup yet.....i see it hapening around 2040's

Yet? We hosted the World Cup in 1994. It was held in nine cities across the country. Average attendance was around about 69,000. This broke records for attendance at the World Cup that had stood since the 1950 World Cup.

You're right, we're not ready.

And soccer is considerably more popular now than it was 16 years ago...how much more popular will it be in the next 12 years?

Bwahaha, like your pigskin xatching is any more of a good sport, or baseball...let's not even start about baseball.

You think baseball is boring as fuck, I think soccer is boring as fuck.

If I have kids and they want to play soccer some day that's cool, maybe I'll get into it. I just have no reason to get into it Minnesota has no MLS team or anything like that....though we could take out the T-Wolves and replace it with an MLS team any day.

yeah man so much better than watching a bunch of guys doing no cardio and waiting to hit a ball every 2 minutes is so much more appealing. wait am i talking about golf or baseball? def. baseball because at least golf has some dignity left.

Sorry mate but you (along with many others) have missed the point. As a whole the US doesn't seem to care about football other than once every four years for a month at a time and that is the major problem. Is your league better? Yes. Do more people follow footy than 10 years ago in the US? Yes. But still, whatever following and passion you guys have for the sport is laughable compared to most of the world. Also, for all the hype about improvement your league is still terrible, arguably worse than some of the Asian leagues. I know it takes time to catch up, but you guys got your chance at a popularity boost in 1994, time to spread the wealth. Could you imagine having the Super Bowl hosted in Italy? Kind of an erroneous example I know, but I think you can see the point I'm trying to make.
That being said, I TAKE BACK almost everything I said against the US bid. If I could have things my way every 3 out of 4 (roughly) World Cups would be played in Europe or South America. But considering who the US was running against they were no doubt the lesser of many evils. And yes, you guys do have a solid infrastructure in place. Maybe not the atmosphere, the historic stadiums or public transit of other areas but a legitimate infrastructure no doubt. Australia I don't know much about but I'm skeptical whether they have the football institution, and probably not the infrastructure to host one. Even just getting there is a nightmare.
Qatar is just mind bottleing...the heat, the political instability of the region, the lack of a footballing culture, a non existent market for football (IMO). And worst of all the lack of infrastructure, they will have to build nine fucking stadiums to host, and while they are sitting on money and have time it just won't be sustainable afterwards. This is truly evidence of how out of touch FIFA is with football. With many (English) clubs being taken over by foreign owners (mine included) you have to think that Italy, Spain and South America are the last places where football is really run by footballing people.
As for 2018, fair play to Russia. I think it's a real shame that it didn't go to England but I can see why they chose them. Still, they don't have the football climate (not literally speaking) or history of England, Spain or the Netherlands. I think overall it's a unconventional pick but a solid one, but to follow it up with and even more controversial pick four years later is ridiculous. I think FIFA need to do away with regional restrictions for WC bids. Russia would have looked like a God amongst men in the 2022 group.
I probably would have gone to a World Cup that would have featured the likes of Wembley, Old Trafford, Camp Nou or the Bernabeu but I think I'll pass on Russia and certainly Qatar. I don't want to be constantly watching my back being afraid of a towel head trying to yank me. That rant was much longer that intended, my b. Finally, LOL at people who still think I support the English national squad.

i love the sport of soccer. and really would like to see the US pick up on it more...

but until then, i dont think the US deserves to host the biggest tournament in the world when we dont even love the sport as a country.

sorry for the double post. but i just saw this too, MN does have an MLS team.. the MN Thunder.

i'm from MN...

ok my bad.

but they did have a team a while back, pretty sure they were mls..,i used to go to their games in like 7th grade (like 7 years ago)... havent been to or followed any of the happenings since..

Trust me man. I understand fully that we dont follow it on the whole... We dont even follow our big sports to the same levels that football is followed in england... Maybe College football, but that's a little different dynamic...
The point i'm making, which I think you understand is that we've come a long way and we are just going to get better. Will we ever catch up? probably not anytime soon, but that's definitely not the goal. The goal is to establish a bit of a culture here in america with the game, and it's definitely being established. Youth leagues are MASSIVE here in the states. in 10 years, when all those kids are old enough to be in leagues, shit's going to get real serious... our national side is already pretty damn legit... they dont have the exposure of most big euro stars, but they are making top sides in england left and right... in a decade, expect some real big stars coming out of the USA. Landon Donovan's good... but the kids who are coming up through the ranks are certainly even better...
I know I'm biased towards the US bid, but the best thing about it is that the USA is so multicultural. We have tons of large enclaves in this nation of people from all over the world... more than anyone else... from latin america, from europe, from Africa, from asia, from EVERYWHERE who play and follow the sport... Soccer wouldnt be on TV all the time here if that wasnt the case...
Australia's bid isnt too bad either, as theyre fairly multicultural, but I dont feel like their infrastructure's ready yet.
Qatar has no real football culture (certainly not much more than the USA or Australia), no alcohol, not enough people to have a seriously established culture as it is, and I dont feel like they have a team thats quality enough to make the cut for the asian cup... much less the world cup... On top of all that, but unless shit changes, then they are going to not allow alcohol outside of hotels... that's weak shit right there (although it might stem any hooligans from causing a tearup haha)
I'm going to have to pretend to be Canadian, and then dying in the terrible heat at the same time if I decide to the qatar world cup. Gross, man...

I hope for your country's sake that football becomes huge. The sporting culture is very different than in traditional footballing countries though so we'll see. I'm very curious to see what happens with the grassroots stuff there too. I know North America has massive participation numbers for football, but I've always seen it as a thing where you dump the kids off once a week on a Saturday during the summers. You don't exactly see kids playing out in the streets 24/7. The whole bringing players through college or national development centers doesn't exactly seem to work either. The model of training kids through club academies like the footballing nations do is the way to go, for now at least.
I'm bitterly disappointed with the choices. Instead of potentially attending Brazil, England and USA I can now only be arsed to go for the Brazil World Cup. The fact that a scum hole country like Qatar won despite having the worst technical bid is appalling.

I dont see football taking over as the main sport here, but I do see it becoming something serious... likely the next big league in north america, for sure, at it's current growth-rate. They wouldnt be building so many stadiums if this shit wasnt going to get big.

Now that LA, Seattle, Bay Area, Vancouver, and Portland all have teams... this shit's going to grow huge.. seeing as the highest concentration of football support comes from out here... and the numbers of people attending matches proves such things...

I wish there was a club closer to me.. San Jose, and Portland are both pretty far... but I'm still damn excited about the growth of the league...

I wont be attending Qatar no matter what... and I think a lot of other people wont either... but maybe thats not a bad thing considering they havent the infrastructure for such an event to begin with...

Russia seems interesting... but if you think the USA bid was spread out... holy shit... that events going to spread from Moscow to Vladivostok, potentially... that's like 7 timezones. fuck that rubbish haha.

I would love to attend brazil though. That's going to be an amazing world cup.

England better win 2026...

which is ridiculous... they'll likely take a bid away from a middle eastern country who can actualally field a solid team well like the Saudis, or Iran, or something...
