Help bid for the 2022 World cup to be in the US

I love soccer but I don't even think bringing it to the u.s. would help popularity enough. Should be in a country that cares about the sport

My brothers best friend from middleschool/gradeschool was the person who made the Chicago videothat was presented to the national Olympic committee for this past voting. He's now in Europe working a job with some huge film company.

ever hear of munich you ignorant shit head? something bad happens at every olympics and if its just one stabbing, thats great.

what is even the point of this pole, its not like the judges are going to look at it and even if they do they wont really take any notice of it.

Pretty sure FIFA doesn't give a fuck about some lame petition (but they may enough care about American money).
Making a thread like this a mere two days before the voting is exactly why America shouldn't get the World Cup. I love the US as much as anyone but stop pretending people there care about football. Case and point: 1994. For all the ''success'' of that World Cup 16 years later football is still like the number 15 sport in the US and you have a fucking terrible league. You guys all fuck off from football after the US gets eliminated by a Third World country. And you don't have the infrastructure anyways.

And I will jizz an obscene amount if the WC is brought to Phila. That would be amazing.

You all understand that this is over a decade away right? I am being optimistic (and probably realistic) that the climate towards football in the States will have changed quite a bit since then.

The US is almost poor enough to be good at soccer, so maybe by 2022 we will be as poor as the rest of the world and kick ass.

thats actually the name it was created under...and they can be used interchangeably.

watch videos of matches from the early 20th century, particularly the 1930s, and even the english commentators were calling it soccer. Somewhere along the line it became football, and it stuck.

I personally don't want it in the US. For one, few things piss me off more than american fans, who buy jerseys and such when espn reminds them that the world cup starts later that day, then proceed to give me shit when my team loses. (I'm french, i've supported them my whole life. anyone who cant match that with their team can fuck off)

And on top of that, the USA is a giant place. We have the stadiums and capability, but part of the novelty of the world cup is having so many nations play so many games close to each other. I don't want to drive 30 minutes to see 1 game, then fly 5.5hrs to see another.

Plus the USA had it in 94. Thats getting to be awhile ago, but when it only happens every 4 years...thats not that far apart.

Does everyone care? No. But do people care way more now than they used to? FUCK YES they do.
1994? Most people didnt know jack shit about the sport. There was no league... There was no way for anyone here to watch games from overseas and get an idea about what the hell this whole 'soccer' thing was all about...
I was here during the 2010 world cup. People in places like Seattle, and Portland, and San Francisco all got up at the buttcrack of dawn to go downtown and watch the games on big screens and drink beer before work at 8 or 9... This is shit that nobody used to do unless a city had a sports team in the depths of a playoff run... and here there were thousands gathered, waving flags and singing songs during the games...
The Algeria game is a perfect example. Everyone was fucking TENSE about it. after 70, or 80 mins, people started covering their eyes and getting freaked... When Donovan scored... we hit the next level of joy... everyone jumped around and started straight flipping out like any european crowd would do. it was at that time that I started to really believe that people here care about this shit... Everyone? No... but enough? fuck yeah.
Football, soccer, whatever you want to call it, is gaining ground in the US. Does our league suck? yeah it does compared to england and most european leagues... but is it growing? fuck yeah it is... clubs have devoted millions to building new stadiums, and theyre FILLING them... Look at a Seattle Sounders game dude.. that club's been around TWO SEASONS and they fill that shit every match... people are excited... New clubs are being formed not because they want to spread the sport like with the old league, but because people are ITCHING for a club to come to their town... Rivalries are growing, and people are really getting behind their support. It's not europe... but for a league that's been around for 15 years, it's fucking impressive...
It's not in the big 4 leagues yet by any means... NHL, NBA, NFL, and MLB teams have been around for decades now and have solidified their positions. There's legacy there... so you cant compare a league that's just getting beyond being a fledgling to that... but MLS is certainly creeping up there as a very popular league... It's definitely more popular than any other Minor league... Stadiums fill with 20-30k people now... people watch that shit on TV all the time... You can turn on ESPN on any random night and soccer is on... It's fucking AWESOME. We have an estimated fanbase of 70-90 million now who pay attention to the sport on a regular basis... how many people live in England again? (not a point i'm trying to make - just saying... the ratings show the growth)
We lost to Ghana... big deal... You guys still didnt do any better than us in any way whatsoever... If anything, seeing as we won the group on goal difference, and we actually competed HARD with Ghana, and you guys were decimated by Deutschland (I know... the disallowed goal was total bullshit), England probably played a little worse... but the thing is, You drew with us, you drew with algeria, we drew with slovenia, and we both barely got by in our last matches, with 1-0 victories against tiny countries we should have both slaughtered... You were just as freaked going into that last match as we are... we both came out on top. Awesome. High five for us, but we still should have both made it into the final 8 at LEAST...

As for us hosting the world cup? You think we dont have the infrastructure?
Dude... we have over THIRTY stadiums ready set, locked and loaded ready to host the world cup RIGHT NOW... You guys cant even compete with that if you wanted to bring Scotland's 3 big stadiums along with you... We have our world cup final stadium ready (it would probably be in New Jersey or Washington this time, with the new Meadowlands stadium just being finished, and FexEx Field being plenty modern and massive enough to hold it. California not having very good modern stadiums ready to go heavily limits it being done on this side of the country unless they want to re-do the rose bowl or the coliseum)
We have TWICE as many affordable hotels as you guys... and dont even get me started on places to find a good bite to eat...
We also have multiple airports in any of the host cities where it would take place, and offer very affordable flights between all of them in comparison to most countries. We have a train system. It's not as awesome as Europe's but it's plenty affordable, and you'd get to see a SHITLOAD of awesome country that you'd never be able to replicate in a smaller nation.. (though Australia would still be pretty awesome for the same reason)
If anything, i'd say, if England and the USA were the top 2 bids for the world cup, England wouldn't be winning the bid because of it's infrastructure, thats for damn sure.

All I can say is, I REALLY hope England gets 2018 and We get 2022... That would be fucking awesome, and 2018 would actually give the USA a MASSIVE boost going into 2022 if we both won our respective bids... If it happens, I'm going to go to both of them for sure (might even go to 3 in a row if I can get tickets to 2014)
I'd like Australia to get the cup too, but I just dont see that happening, seeing as all their stadiums, first of all suck for football (the pitch is a giant, massive, overly sized oval - terrible sightlines) and not only that, but a lot of their big stadiums they have in place wont be at all useable due to rugby happening at the same time...
Russia should get to host a future cup too... but seeing as they have to figure out their political and economic problems, they should have to wait until the next time the cup goes to Europe.

Seeing as we've had a league that's gone from a hope to something lucrative in 15-16 years? imagine what another 12 years will do...

I think it's accurate to say the World Cup has grown in popularity in the USA, but not the rest of the sport.

The MLS is doing alright for itself now. Still somewhat a joke of a league compared with others, but you have to start somewhere and build up.

And last summer I felt like a good majority of people only remembered and watched the world cup because espn spent months convincing people it was important.

And Americans seriously need to abandon the love of other countries. I do live in the US usually, but I'm a french citizen, and I've spent huge portions of my life in France, and my relatives all love the French team...so I do too. But I always see people wearing italy shirts (with the story "my uncle's wife had a grandfather who lived next door to a guy who's son accidentally crossed the border into italy for 10 minutes while drunk one night....so I'm like 95% italian and support them.") and various other countries, yet have absolutely no idea as to who plays for them, and haven't been to the country they support.

I don't like or follow team sports, so I usually just end up having a laugh at how stupid stuff is when watching games with my friends.

I do get fired up when Finland has a chance of winning...well anything. In no other way am I patriotic and I would get the fuck out of dodge if war came knocking, but something about Finland winning anything is exhilirating.

I know a ton of people here that follow the premiership. i love european football far more then american football. It's my favorite sport. Just thought I'd add that. But you are right when you say a lot of people bail out of the world cup after the US gets knocked out.

West Ham

getting ready to announce it seems...

rumor has it qatar managed to snag up 2022. Unconfirmed of course.

yes. they do them in pairs now so its not a constant process of bidding, voting, and so on.

set to start any minute now. so damn excited!

I would not like to be one of those players on the field in qatar in the middle of june/july. Or any time of year for that matter.

oh well though. doesnt look any different from my point of view, which is via TV.

but still, wish england got it.

France 2016 however is going to be excellent.

The timezone for BOTH fucking BLOWS ASS for me...
god damnit... this sucks. haha.

Then again... I always did want to check out Russia...
but Qatar? not so much... seeing as my COUNTY has more people living in it than Qatar...

I've been to Qater alot, and Doha is quite a cool city - but that's it - there is nothing outside of that other then wet gas terminals and desert!

I have no idea where all the games will be played.... just in and around Doha then - they'll just throw billions at new hotels and stadiums and shit - like the F1 stuff - money is no object...

But its a weird place to host, unless they would share it with Abu Dhabi and Dubai - but surely that would of been in the bid??
