Help; Best Light powder ski

hey seeing if any of you could offer up an opinion on a good powder ski that is really lightI ride the original K2 made n aks but feel they are a bit to heavy for me now in the 189 lengthi tore my hamstring off my pelvis and tore MCl and ACL and am recovering and the docter really recomendend a light ski for a year or two while i am recoveringPlease any input is apreciated im 6;1 and 160 pounds any ideas??????

181 or the 191 ON3P Caylor if you are looking for something similar to and significantly lighter than the hellbent. 148/120/140 and rockered, these things kill it. they are a bit stiffer than the 'bents so they dont chatter as much on the groomers when you're making laps to the chair which makes them have a more stable feeling under your feet and not like huge clown shoes.
with bamboo cores and a 3" carbon stringer these things are lighter than almost any of the rockered pow skis on the market today, with more pop than anythig ive skied these bad boys feel like trampolines on your feet. not to mention they are made with top notch matrials right here in the good old USA by your fellow NSers, so you know we are pushing out a quality product for skiers, by skiers.

hey thanks man there just so many new brands these days, those look like exactly what im looking for light, but built with quality materials thanks for the input and how are these available
 
in order of lightness(putting length in to perspective)

189 LL2: about 9.2lbs apparently, my scale is off but said 9.4

190 Ruby: 9.2lbs a pair, will probably feel a lot like you Maden's, but much lighter, stiffer and better in pow. 188 Rubys are 9/pair, but why would you want the softer less charging version of the 190?

185(183..)JJ 09: 9.5lbs a pair

185 ARG: 10 lbs a pair or just under(09), and will ski even lighter.

Those are what came to mind right away, did you want a lighter Maden replacement(Rubys, Tahoes, Coombas are all lighter and similar) or a more "fun shape"?
 
DPS and Goode skis both make all their stuff from carbon fiber which makes them ultra light, but they also aren't really freestyle oriented so if you still want to throw down tricks they wouldn't be good for you.
 
yeah forgot those. Lotus 138s could be a good one, they might ski switch alright, but they also cost a fortune. I only ever buy gear if it is used and at a steep discount or if it is end of the season sales so I can get them really cheap. I got brand new in plastic 189 LL2s for 275 shipped(as did a good handfull of us on here) and they are probably the lightest ski in the large tip/tail rockered trickery aimed skis, and are also stiff which is the best thing ever for charging. I wish they had taper, though.. I'll have to see how they compare to JJs and Chetlers and then decide if I want to keep them after 2010, or sell them and get something similar in shape with taper. I wish they made Chetlers in a 193, they ski short!
 
a little to diff from bents i think, camber under foot, stiff, not a ton of rocker, 185? bibbys would be better. or night trains
 
did you get a pair? they are a blast for snappy skiing in pow and the camber underfoot actually does do something in the pow(makes it so the skis throw you out of turns). They were on my tip and tail rockered powder jib ski list, but they left it for being short for me(I like longer skis).
 
thanks guys great info and ideas i am deffinately going to check out all products suggested, there are just so many to look at these days from so many different brands used to be like four or five companies max to choose from now its more like ten! simply amazing how far the industry has comethe bamboo core is very interesting to me and would love to try a ski with this core, sounds like a great material that has not been used alot in the past
 
yes, and it hurts my head to decide what to get when buying skis/bindings...I narrowed it down to about 5 pow skis with a few leaders for different reasons and ended up getting the best deal around that time(which happened to be NIP 189 LL2s for 275 shipped). It was between those and ARGs at the end(for the deal) and I got the LL2s to mess around with in park more
 
Respectfully. May I suggest you ask your Dr what he meant by a light ski. Is he / she a skier ?

The actual weight of a ski is only experienced when both u and the ski are air airborne, or if is hanging off your leg on a chair without foot rests. When u are skiing the ski is on the snow and u r on top of it. So perhaps the Dr meant get a soft ski or a not to aggressive ski. Like sort of take it easy ski. A slower easy turn ski.

I admit I have no idea of your particular situation, but I wouldn't want you to get something with out the due diligence. The Dr may have meant a ski that is easy to initiate a turn so as not to strain the repaired tissue. So maybe no stiff, big radius hi speed skis. Maybe Salomon Guns (2008-2009) or something a little noodley. Maybe an all-day long kinda ski vs. an all-out couple runs only ski. U may hate them if u were an aggresiive skier. Sometimes these skis are for the "finese skier & style " vs. muscle and strength.

I did rehab for my knees with a ski specialist, and they said gradually over time, bring back your strength and no fast moves. It was the pressure I was exerting not the weight of the skis.

If it is weight, it would be the weight of the ski boot, the binding and the ski that would be trouble for you. Hoping the best for u.
 
I think the EPs are light, and the Bents feel light when your skiing them. The Chopstix are the heaviest and most sluggish feeling skis i have ever been on though. They ski switch amazing, but are a bitch to spin on
 
DPS is amongst the lightest powder skis available. If you know someone that has purchased from their previously, you can get a crazy deal for almost 50% off their retail price. Durable can be an issue though that was supposedly addressed for the 09/10 season. Moment's Ruby line is around 8.5 to 9.0 lbs for the 180/188 sizes.
 
yeah im getting some im stoked. ive had both 169 and 179 hellbents and i think these are gonna be the ticket for me. I got tired of the weight/sluggishness when it was any other condition but nice pow, so hopefully these will be lighter and livelier. plus way more all mountain.
