The cheapest helmet that I think is good is probably the Pro-Tec helmets. You can get them for under $40.

The normal protecs for skating will work ok (not suited for bad falls imo) but they dont have anything for the cold (like ear flaps) but you could I guess wear a beanie tho its not the most comfy. Protec makes winter ones for a little more, maybe 60-70, havent tried those so I dont know, they look a little more like ski/snowboard helmets but not exactly. Ive found that boeries, leedoms etc are a little too heavy/bulky and pricey. I love the giro 9. I got it for 100 and its sweet, really comfy, almost as light as a beanie! I thought that Id hate wearing helmets but the giro rocks, I forget that its on after 5 min.

i bought a pro tech skateboarding helmets cause my head get extremly hot when i ski, so i just wear tuoqe underneath it. it works awsome and your not so fukin hot

I like my giro 9 a lot too, its nice and warm when its cold and then you can take the vent plugs out to cool off when your'e hot.

i just stay clear of the whole helmet situation, unless im learning inverts, my freind has a beori, and he hates his, never wears it

i have the skycap impact, its really nice, super warm too, kinda pricy but it depends on if you can fit the kids sizes or not...heh.

 
how much are the protec ear flaps? my ears get freeeeezing when i wear my helmet, and it didnt come with the flaps, and my touque doesnt fit underneath my helmet.

Dont think you can buy the earflaps, especially if you have the regular skate helmet. At getboards.com you can get this thin beanie thing that looks like itll slip right under the helmet and over your ears too.

i just got mine today from getboards.com its a ace freeride,protec , i like but i have not got a chance to use it other then on my tramp, it was like 40 or some shit.

 
mines a protec snow helmet, the ace halfpipe one. it has the buttons inside that are where the flaps go. i know you can get them, just wanna know how much.
