Helmet cams - anyone know anything?

I was interested in buying a video camera with the possibility of getting a helmet cam for my adventures out west this year. At my last job we did alot of work for samsung and i remember running into a 'sports camera' called the SC-x300L, with attached helmet cam, and now i see it sells for under 300 bucks (pricegrabber).

im just curious if anyone uses the sc-x300l or seen the footage, because overall most of the reviews were not too positive. my only incentive is that its cheap, records video, and is rubber.

anyone know any other setups that are any good and actually worth it? id be willing to spend around 1200 bucks if i found something that was totally kick ass and totally worth it, for instance, a decent minidv cam and a helmet cam kit or something, which ive also been searching around for

from what ive seen of helmet cams, the quality isnt much better than a cell phone or something, i think you should just stick to a video camera.

and wrong forum-media and arts

from my personal experience you gotta always be:

checking the connections...cables coming unplugged

lens...snow and water on it

camera...preview now to save headache later

else you end up with lots of useless footage

I've seen a real cheap one, €150 (something like $220) which had VGA-quality, I asked to try it out in the shop so I made some real fast movements with the thing to see how it looked and was suprised it was actually ok (on a computer screen!). Ok it's not super quality, but it would sure make a nice gadget if you've got extra cash.

So that's the thing, don't spend your last cash on it expecting high-quality images, but if you can afford it and would like to have some nice amateur-looking-videos from you ripping "hard"... buy it

well since you're budget is fucking huge get the viosport pov.1 it's probably the best thing out their, but it's like $880 it's self contained too so you don't need a video camera.

that helmet cam is the shit. You dont need a video camera with it either.

I guess the army is using it a ton these days, too. They are making rangers and special forces units where it into battle so they can have video recordings of it. Pretty sweet.

Quality is really good too, but as you said, it is getting close to $900.

I wish I could remember the name, but if you're realy interested I could call them and ask, but only if you're really interested because at that shop it takes like +15min. before you can get someone on the line who can answer your question.

Ah fuck it... gave them a call and suprise it only took 7min 42sec. anyway here the link, but like I said it's not a supercamera but just a nice gadget and with your budget I'm thinking you're looking for something better

i saw the viosport one, self contained is pretty cool, but i shoulda been a little more clear

the reason my budget was like 1200 ISH was because i was assuming i would have to get a semi decent camera (mini dv or hd or something) with maybe a ~400$ attachment of sorts... the self contained would be rpetty cool especially since ive read only good thigns about it but i dunno how that would go for my every day filming needs (if i do ever film every day) haha.

thanks so far to everyone who responded and/or waiting on the phone for 8 minutes =)

bishop the igobig website didnt work for me, the product section at least

the Vrop or whatever it aws called, WOW, looks sick for 300 bucks but since they dont have quality of the video on the site yet, i dunno if its in my best interest to pre order one haha, esp since they MIGHT not ship it till 2008, which would destroy my whole whistler filming adventure

and then yea, the VIO, wow the camera looks sick, the footage from tgr is nuts, and for 850 i think it might be worrth it in the long run, but who knows.

again thanks for all the input, keep it comin if anything else is around!

^would it be possible to just plug it into my pc, transfer all my videos onto pc, and then just drag em over to my mac?

Viosport POV-1 Is SICK. a They are from up here, and i see guys wearing them on moiuntain bikes, and they eat it, and the cam keeps going, the little monitor thing, is solid, and they all really stand behind their product.

naw that was my stunt double. im alive and well. waiting for the 08 elections to strike again. look for your mask in the mail soon.

where do you buy the igobig.com cameras. I see nothing on their website to get one, but yeah that is what pollard uses in idea, and i want one, but can't find where to buy it

it seems like the igobig is only rental units, nothing to actually buy, whihc is a solid idea for a company. but yea, know one knows if its possible to just upload all the viosport video to my PC and then edit it on my mac? cuz i figure i can just do that till it becomes mac compatible...im on the brink of buying it today...

says on the sight only the SOFTWARE doesnt work on the mac, i can still usb the camera into my mac or just drop the SD card into a reader and WALLAH, insta win

SO PUMPED ordering it today! now i gotta get better and/or find someone to take me to some dope spots in whistler!

If you have question about the pov.1 just go to tetongravity.com there's some really good reviews about it and they talk about putting it on a mac so look into that
