Im lookin to buy a new helmet this year and arent sure what size to get. My smith holt now is size M-L, and it fits quite nicely. im not sure to go with a medium or large because i took some of the pads out of my old smith holt. I went to my local ski shop and each helmet fit completely different, and the shop had a shitty selection so im looking on ordering offline. Any suggestions?
 
well your best bet, is to go to another shop. As you said yourself all helmets fit differently. Unless someone else has the exact same head as you, your only option is to try the helmet on and see if it fits.

Dont buy something as important as a helmet online, go buy one you know fits correctly and support your local shop.
 
Probably go one size up, worst come to worse you can wear a had with some pads too. But a too small helmet is the absolute worst
