...hello, canada?

alright, so i filled out your little NS survey and the last question was something along the lines of "what would you like to see more of, or change, or something, on NS" and I put some thought into the question...
...to my surprise I actually came up with an answer that I would actually like to see happen.

MORE CANADIAN CONTENT!

A perfect example of how this site is very backwards in it's workings is the current poll on the main page. The poll asks which NS staff member you would vote for as President of the U.S. Has it occurred to anyone here (including you - NS staff) that you are all Canadian, and we are currently having our own election right now, as we speak, which is being voted upon tomorrow!!!

Yes, I know the ski industry is very much driven by the American market, but come on guys, this website was created by a canadian, in canada, and is still currently owned and operated by canadians in canada.
I am calling everyone out. Not just the NS Staff but the masses as well. I know you're out there, and I know shit's going on... Yea, I know - everyone's all interested in what those pros are doing down there in Colorado, but this site is bigger then that. grassroots skiing in canada is cool damnit! I'd say I'd put my 'talking' into actions, but Jason already has that covered on the Rossland front. This winter, if there's a cool competition, a sweet booter sesh, anything that makes you go "sick brah!" I want to see it grace the pages of NS. I don't know about you guys, but I'm sick of reading about those folk down in New Jersey and their silly rail sesh.

We all know Canada is the best place in the world to ski, lets show everyone else what we're all about.

Darryl.

now that i think about it, i totally agree with you. for being a canadian website they sure isnt alot of canadian content at all.

Canadians only account for 10% of the traffic here while the US traffic accounts for over 40% of the traffic. I think the balance of the content reflects the national viewership numbers on the site.

although Norway is extremely under represented on here considering they account for 20% of the traffic.

Hah its higher canadian percentage than that... and higher US. :) Its over 20% Canadian, and around 60% US.

Oh and Darryl, the site is actually now owned by Americans. :) The homepage poll is just a joke!

I'm voting tomorrow for SURE.

If you must know, I actually am voting for the Liberal party.

To the larger issue of Canadian content though, we're really striving to have content on the site from all over the world, not just North America!

I think most members of the site are from the states, I'd like to see more Canadian content too, but one reason why a lot of the content is American is because a majority of the members are American. I REALLY enjoy seeing content from other parts of the world though, like the Turkey article from a while back, and the South America updates. That is the most interesting and often funnest content to read.

I completely agree and giving the site a more canadien feel is not intrusive at all. This site started in Canada and is still in canada, its important to have roots and hold on to them.

NS is really American owned? that saddens me, ever so slightly.

i'll think of a solution to this number game... lets just get Dan to do another cross canada trip again this winter. yea...

I'm Canadian and i don't really give a shit. Skiing is skiing, who cares where you do it, as long as you're getting it done?
