helllp!!!! trying to move out west

I'm taking a year off from school this year and I'm trying to move out west (preferably to jackson or slc) around november for the winter and I was wondering if anyone had any advice as far as places to stay, where to work, or anything else etc. It's a pain in the butt trying to figure all this out so if anyone can help me out or has any advice throw me a line.

If you plan on moving to SLC and you wont be going to school consider www.snowbird.com or www.alta.com for employement. I'm sure you will get free Skiing at those resorts if you work there. Plus you could probably secure employment before you moved out. As far as living up the canyon it would be pretty sweet but plan on frequent trips down to the valley for supplies and I'm assuming the nightlife there is fairly weak. If your moving out alone expect around 400$/month for a single bedroom apartment(down in salt lake valley). The nightlife downtown salt lake although not the greatest is considerably better than anywhere I've been around the valley. www.apartment.com and www.rent.com both have listing for salt lake apartments and you can customize your search by a number of criteria. If you live in taylorsville,midvale,south jordan expect spanish speaking neighbors. I moved here from the east coast last year and Im happy about my descision the skiing is unbeatable and theres tons of hiking, biking, climbing,exc. to entertain you in the summer months aswell. yeah definitely stock up if your in the canyons.. the roads close so much and food kinda helps

i did this last year and i am doing it again this year. If you want to find a good place to rent go earlier than nov. First months rent is usaully double so save up some dough. If you are going to live in employee housing get thier when the resort opens. Working at the resort gives you a free pass but you wil probably be working during the day. Idealy get a job at night so you don't miss any big dumps. My freinds and I drove out to MT with no place to stay and no jobs, but within a couple days we had a place to stay and within a week or two we all had jobs. It wasn't to hard, except for not eating. i did this 2yrs ago and i'm still in colorado.

try breck or vail for a sick time and i know breck has employee housing and everyone I've talked to loves it.

call breck or go to the site and they'll give you info about moving out there..

advice = save up as much money as possible.

 
www.skijobs1.com thats vailresorts job website all the info and posting on jobs you need. I know Intrawest has a site to and the american ski company does too just have to search for them..

sometimes when im running water to wash dishes or something, i think about how lucky i am to have such simple access to running water and how some people will never know such a simple pleasure.

then i let it run for awhile, just because i can.

 
i might do this for 05-06...... i'm already 2 years ahead of the school curve, courtesy of being an early admissions kindergartener and then an early admissions college freshman...... 16 in college, bitches. anyway, i'm thinking about burning off one of those years and working/skiing out west.... gettting away from new york state, and parents. mabye figure out what the hell i'm going to do with my life. anyway, props to thinking about moving out there.

Everyone I talked to who took year(s) off to be a ski bum always ended up not going back to school. then you are nothin but a po ski bum-- which actually might not be that bad.

I two the winter before last and the winter before that off to skibum and I'm back in college fulltime. do what you want

rip, i'll be 17 this october, and 18 by the time i actually get around to going west. i know i'm screwed @ 16, which is why i'm not there right now.

dude not to br harsh but you have procrastinated (sp) way to long. it so late to make the move now, you should have done that in july/august. its gonna be tough to find a place to stay cheap this time of year, im not sure about all hills but a lot have already hired or are in the proces of hiring. all the shops have already hired and are already training people. you might have some luck if you head out within the next few weeks but come november everyone is already into the season
