Hellbent, JJ comparison?

I'm thinking ahead to next year and have concluded i want something pretty fat (115 - 125).i have narrowed it down to the Hellbent and the JJ. How do these skis compare? i want lots of rocker and i want pretty soft flex. basically these will be part of a two ski quiver with my VCTs. I don't want too much overlap between the skis. It would also be nice to have a ski that i wouldnt have to worry about if there isnt as much snow as i think there is (i.e. if i end up hitting some groomers and a little park as well as pow)thanksR

well jj's are probably going too be stiffer and more versatile due to the reversish sidecut which will give you surprising amounts of grip on the hardpack. The rocker on the hellbents is allot more intense and they will probably slay the pow a little better due too the increased rocker and 7?mm difference in waist.

thanksi guess since my VCTs are fairly stiff i am looking for something on the soft playful side of things.would this the bents?

from what ive heard yes, if you can handle a big enough ski check out ep's they are supposedly super playful. i wish i could give em a go, but living on the eastcoast kinda sucks a dick for powdaa

jj's are quite stiff and they can charge if you want them to whereas bents are purely for playing around and just dicking around in pow or in the park or somethingthey're very soft and have much more rocker than jj'skeep in mind that jj's are normal skis underfoot just funky at the tip and tail whereas bents are full out crazy rockered

skied on them both and i have got to say hellbents are way more playful and better in the park and are better for powder. not to mention they do fine on hard pack. though not as good as jj's on the hard pack but they still do fine.

ha, have you ever skied a bent before?

they aren't purely for playing around at all. you can charge pretty hard on them. they float amazing and the stiffness underfoot gives you a beautiful platform so everything feels solid. they are my pure powder ski, it just snowed here in mammoth it snowed a shit load but mammoth gets tracked out really fast. my bents are able to fly through all the bumps and crud effortlessly. they are so big and heavy they can just blast through everything

how can you say bents fly through bumps and crud? i took mine out on a pow day and they are truly amazing but when it gets crudded out they just flap and bounce everywhere when you get them up to speed in the crud. i can see if you're skiing slow they'd be fine but when you really get going it's quite a bit more work to keep bents stable in crud than any stiffer ski. so in a sense they are for playing around, if you want to rip the fuck out of pow get something stiff and long but if you want a more playful ski get hellbents

^Then honestly, you are doing something wrong.

Seriously.

Hellbents are fucking mack trucks. When the powder gets tracked out, you get your weight forward and they crush the tracked up pow/crud. The 189s are long and heavy, and they level anything in their path. Sure you get a bit of tip deflection but just ignore it and you realize you are flying over things that you couldn't possibly on a smaller lighter ski. A pure charging ski IMO is really the only thing that will give you noticeably better charging performance. The combination of huge tip, rocker, and dampness/weight allows Bents to crush at speed. Since I have been on the bents not a single one of the skiers/snowboards I ride with can possibly even imagine being able to keep up with me in wideopen tracked powder bowls when I am on the bents. Not trying to say I am an amazing skier but Hellbents, literally, allow you to do things you can't do on other skis.

They rock groomers really nicely as well. Definitely not a carving ski per se, but if you can't carve down a groomer on Hellbents you honestly just shouldn't be on a ski like this anyways.

The 179 would probably be pretty good in the park as well, honestly though the 189s are really big, heavy skis, I have never taken them in the park.

So it seems like ns likes the hellbentshow about the Liberty Double Helix?http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=146939&page=14there is a link to 09/10 dub helixes and they look sick
