Heliski - Thoughts & Recommendations?

Hey Newschoolers! Long time forum leech, first time contributor ;)

I'm finally looking at breaking out of my chilly yet comfortable skiing comfort zone and trying something a little more...out there? I've been reading up on Heliskiing recently and it sounds like My Kind Of Thing and the perfect next step as I'm starting to tire (just a touch!) of the regular same old runs year-in, year-out.

I know, I'm awful!

I'm currently looking for any reccs on operators within New Zealand. Any favourite experiences? Best locations? Go-to providers? I currently have my eye on http://heliskinz.com/ but I'm open to any other suggestions from the NZ skiing community. Particularly given it'll be quite the cash investment to get geared up, let alone the cost of packages etc.

Having said that, I also welcome any general heliski advice from the more experienced here. Is there anything specific I should be adding to my gear for the transition over to skiing's aerial cousin?

Thanks in advance!

If your getting into the Backcountry whether it's via heli or touring consider getting avi gear and taking avi courses (more important). A fatter ski would help if your hitting deep snow a lot.

Almost sounds like you should just get into touring. Cheaper in the long run, and once you have the gear you can go when ever conditions allow. It might seem a little expensive once you start but the gear last awhile if you take care of it.

Not to say you shouldn't go heli skiing. Heliskiing would be sick as well.

While were talking about NZ should I be spend this coming season in Queenstown or Wanaka?

QTown for the nightlife or Wanaka for the "better town"
