so there i was, minding my own business at school.. trying to finish up assignments due later in the day (slacking as always) and i check my email..

so the editor of http://neastmag.com who i met the other week up at the burton us open that i was shooting sends me an email asking if i could help him out next week shooting a story, but it was gonna require some travel. yeah, sure.. i'm at school right now so i can't call you, just send me an email with the info.

bit later, i get his response.

he wants to know if i can afford a plane ticket to seattle and booze tab for myself for a week. the rest is on him. plus i get paid for the 6 page article that will run in his mag in their fall issue.

what may this trip be for you're probably asking right about now (or if you're not, you've probably not been reading and just jumped in here in the middle. shame on you. go back to the top)

well. this trip is me going heli skiing up in canada for a week. yup. i'll be flying around in a helicopter, shooting skiing. then dropping out of the helicopter to charge the mountains myself. and yes. shoot some more skiing.

not a bad gig. especially when you realize two months ago i knew nobody in the ski industry (well, at least nobody that would be willing to drop $4,000 on a ski trip for me plus pay me on top of it all). was just a ski bum from tahoe that loved taking photos and decided to move out to new england to finish up photography school.

fuckin a right. i'm stoked.

so lucky dude. I did this whole big research project for english on heli-skiing and it is expensive... How long are you staying out there for?

yeah, shit's not cheap. i'm doing three days of skiing which runs about $4,000 (includes meals and lodging and all that)

definitely way out of my price range for what i could afford on my own :p i'll be gone monday-saturday though. party in seattle monday night, then up to BC, ski wed-fri, then drive back to seattle and fly home.

they're pretty new.. this fall will be their third year in existance. it's mostly just about the ski/skate/surf/climb/snowboard culture and lifestyle, primarily in the northeast (they're based in portland, maine) but they do stories all over the place. i just saw the magazine for the first time two weeks ago when i met the editor at the burton us open up at stratton so i definitely don't know the whole story, but the mag seems pretty legit as far as content goes, and the print quality on the mag is sick too. all i know is i'm fuckin stoked that they offered me the job and i'm gonna do everything i can to make it a sick story.
