Does anyone know how they go about aquiring land to ski on? I was wondering if they had to purchase the land that they dropped skiers on or if they got permits from the state or country any info about heli ski operations

God is an American.

Forest Service Permits.....in the US anyway. I don't know how those crazy canucks do it though.

Look... A mountain RAM. Staring contest. Me and you. You don't even blink do you? You win. You always do. Goulet.

YOu loan the land since most of them are in national and provincial parks. You cant buy mountains, you lease them.

i bet in the remote places like alaska you dont need to buy any land. its gov't property and no one will know or care.

you get a tenure that allows you to run your business....you dont own the land you just get the right to use it for commercial use and no other company can

ya thats how some of us canadians do it lots of places that are permanent heli ski operations just buy the land for obvious reasons but ya permits are deff a way to go haha.

Chugach Powder Guides here in AK just got a exploritory permit from the forest service i think. whoever deals with that land. anyway, its huge, they added the area from Girdwood to Seward. something like 175000 square acres.....er miles. i dunno. its big ass. but theres a huge debate now on how its ruining the enviroment. its a bunch of shit cus no one....i mean no one skis out there. yea...your gonna skin in 400 miles. good one. not.

Ruby Mountain Heli ski in Nevada has to obtain a permit from the forrest service. They just make sure they aren't polluting or damaging the enviroment by allowing heli-skiing. Kinda lame but whatever. You'd also need your basic business license and insurance for the heli and what not. But as I know you just need to a permit to use the land and thats based on the amount of "damage" the operation will do to the enviroment.
