Height/Age Requirement for Terrain Park?

im starting to wonder if this is a good idea. little kids go in the terrain park all the time and:

1. get in my way

2. get in other peoples way

3. climb up faces of jumps creating ruts and deadening the lip

4. sometimes, getting hit and injured, or get hurt on the features from lack of experience

i think that there should definitely be one at gore mountain in upstate ny. i went up yesterday hoping to ski some park for once. i was very surprised with the amount of people that waited and called their drops, but then there was A LOT of little kids that really got in the way. they just ski around aimlessly and their parents encourage it. there was a line of jumps in the upper sleighride park that i like to spin. i got to the second one and spun for a 3 mute. i got to like a 240 and saw a little kid getting closer and closer to me from the right. so to prevent a collision, i whipped my skis around as fast as i could, coming like 3 inches from gashing a hole in his face, and possibly fucking me up too.

no disrespect to short shredders, but something has to be done. i know a little man named linus thats 8 and throws down, and im sure there are other kids out there like him. terrin park flow has to be controlled somehow, ESPECIALLY at gore, before a kid gets seriously injured or killed.

at my mountain, just as many adults do that as kids. i dont think there should be, it would limit the progresssion of the wonderkids.

The park at my mountain is awful almost everyone that hits it is either a racer of little kid and then they go and ruin the jumps while the more serious people are just like what the fuck

I dont like the idea of a height age limit, cuz i've seen some real young kids thrash. a mountain near me makes you watch a short vid to get a park pass. and they inforce it. This keeps the gapers/gaper spawns out cuz the only reason they go into the park is for something different. They dont go to lap the park all day.

while I do agree with you that something should be done about gapers in the park I'm not really sure if what you're saying can be done. If you put a height or age restriction on people going into the park that will just discourage little shredders from becoming better at freestyle and hence slowing down the progress of our sport. I think the best thing that a mountain can do is continue with the practice of making people who want to use the park get a park pass. That way they will forced to be educated about proper practices in the park. That way you won't have to land on any little kids head! Yay!

only place i've seen preventing this is Stratton, you need this SES pass to get in. its free and easy to get, but like mom and dad and little 5 year old johnny most likely won't have one and won't be allowed in.

but even with that, there are a ton of kids with these passes that just go right in and cut right infront of people and all that, they show no respect, those people i really can't standt

no height or age requirement, just a park pass. watch like a 10 minute video and get a pass to go in the park. it would prevent so much injury.

that's exactly what Toggenburg did. i was there the first weekend they implimented it and it was nice to know it'd be the last day of getting cut off by a family of ducks trailing thru the park. haven't been lately, but i'm stoked that they know what's up.

Amen. I almost landed on a kid the other day when he decided it was a good idea to go cutting across the middle of a landing. Thank god I went huge and cleared the kid. If I hadn't, we'd both be in serious condition. CLAIM

i dont think there needs to be an age height or weight requirement but just an intent requirement. i think you should only be allowed into the park if you intend on using the features in the park or filming and such. it doesnt mater how skilled you are as long as youre trying to learn. the people that just go into watch or simply ski is where the problems come from.

there were these 12 year olds at SR the other weekend that were pretzeling boxes and 450ing off rails, so why would you want to cancel that? Height and Age are irrelevant when it comes to joey 'classification.' Its based on simple skiing ability/skill, not age. If you want to keep joeys out, make a park pass like stated before.

At winter park theres a place somewhat like this that only allows people that have a pass to go into the terrain park which keeps gapers out and the park in great shape. Its called dark territory. And i think you have to be over ten and to get the pass you have to watch a movie and pay 20 bucks but its worth it

bad idea, theres a 12 year old at our indoor slope that can switch misty the tinyest kickers you can ever see and goes 5x bigger than anyone else

i dont thinks so. there are some good kids out there a lot younger and shorter than I am. I think instead there should be someone in the park that tell people whether or not they can be there. I dont know if something like this would works. just an idea

gore needs a park pass, on that tiny jump line i gapped a little fucker who cut in front of me. i almost helmet tapped him on purpose

i dont think its a good idea. if theres a young tanner hall like 4 years old doing nutstacular shit, then let him be there. the problem is not that theres little kids, its that theres idiots in the park. just make a park pass system

what hills need is a beginner park, intermediate(and/or)expert park. this way, newbs can hit up the beginner park and stay out of everyone else's way. of course, there's going to be the odd newb who thinks he's a pro and will hit up the bigger park regardless of whather he can actually do anything or not, but at least this way most people will find their own place.

of course, two or more parks would cost a lot of money, so there's a flipside to this.

at my mountain, theres a park that has the tiniest jumps you would ever see so me and my friends decided to head in there and see what we could do off these jumps that shoot you like 2 feet in the air. on the last one, im gettin ready to spin and just as i pop and spin, looking over my shoulder to my landing spot, theres a little kid just sitting in the middle of the landing. i wacked his face with the back of my ski super hard. i felt bad cause i just zoomed away.

yea i think a park pass would be good at gore, but i dont think gore would enforce it. and i know theres some kids that fuckin rip park that are mad young, as i previously said. its just the REALLY young kids that are like in the 5-10 year old range that think its ok to climb up the faces of the jumps is what really pisses me off, or the little kid that comes up short on a landing, cases, wrecks, then lays in the landing for 10 minutes crying about it. i see this all the time at gore and they NEED to do something about it.

DR_feelgood was in the beginner park when it happened, but these kids are barely able to ski like wedge down the easiest trails on teh mountain and shouldnt be near the park, yet their parents think since theyre with their kids its ok to let them do whatever they want in the park like walk up the jumps and get in the way.

hhahahaha beginner..... every park at gore is a beginner park. but i was in the labeled "intermediate" park when it happened haha

yeah their is an issue with that too. personally i don't think anybody under the age of maybe 9 or so should be anywhere near park terrain, but it would be a difficult thing to enforce. some kids have the maturity to ride park at a young age, and i wouldn't want to ruin any of their chances just because the majority of little kids are idiots.

my home mountain (edelwiess) has a mini park at the bottom with 2 small boxes a 10 foot flat rail and a small jump (probly 6-7 feet) then theres a medium park and a big park and for the big park you need to get a pass witch costs 20$ and lasts for the whole season

word, half of its parents that think its fine for their ittle kid to go int he park, because they are with them. but its fun to yell at parents and make them realize they are retarded.

dudeit just straight up piissesss me off when dumb asses ride up the lip going slooow as fuck and dont make it up and then climb up and put there shit everywhere and get shit in the way.....i hate morons in the park really pisses me off

haha yeah i was just talking about this yesterday. It would be great if mountains started putting up signs in front of their parks sort of like this...

at my home mtn there is a small park with boxes and tiny jumps so that keeps the nice jumps and rails pretty clear of gapres

my mountain has a big park and a small park, but the small park has some bigger features that little kids can't hit. but they go in anyways and destroy the landings horribly. so my mountain came up with this idea to make a tiny little park for beginners, with like 2 foot jumps and boxes on the ground. it could have been a sweet way to get rid of all the little kids, but they butchered the idea. they put that park on the other side of the mountain, way away from traffic, while the medium park is on the main run, so it does nothing.

I think that ski patrol should enforce park rules.

They pull you over and take passes for going fast because it is a hazard to other people, why not do the same in the park. Using landings like a run. cutting people off by using rail lips as jump, etc. are all potentially dangerous actions so gapers should face the same discipline we face when being reckless in "their" areas.

i feel bad for the park staff at my "hill"

all the asians and stuff that come up from toronto roll over everything

even the stepdown!

the jump is like 7 feet tall and the back of the jump just goes strait down.

and they just roll over it

And then they sit there and take pictures on the landing of rails and stuff?

Something serisouly needs to be done.

I don't think they should make you pay for a park pass cause it's not really worth it

But it's horrible.

And same with pipe to

people just snowplow halfway up the walls and scrape all the ice away

it really pisses me off.

yea i totally agree with the park pass. a height limit would be a bit unfair to some haha. i just hate little gapers. there was this one little snowboard gaoer who decided to use the drop in as a jump. with like 5 people standing on this mound, he decides to buzz me. he nails the tail of my right ski, then my pole gets caught in his binding and it rips out of my hand and goes flying down the trail. the kid crashed, then got up and scurried away in shame. it REALLY pissed me off cuz it put a nice gash in my ski and fucked up my glove. little fuckers...

i ski gore a lot, and yes, linus does slay, but if ur upset about someone snaking u in upper sleighride then u shouldnt be too mad, those jumps r meant for the baby gapers to play on, not for some one trying to go big and stomp a decent spin off it, i kno there's gapers on lower as well but thats why they hav a fence surrounding each side of their biggest jump, ur best bet is to not ski gores infested park and go look for hidden glades at the top

We need it so badly at Sunpeaks, so many kids slay here and then so many gapers. Park pass for the black and blue lanes, the green pakr should still be open to everyone. That would let aspiring jibbers work their way up to the black lane instead of cutting people off and shit

to some respect yes, my hill has a fuckn progression park and half the time me and my friends go there cause the people there have more respect and are less likely to fuck up on the jumps and landings,

yes they all still suck. today i counted over 12 people go over the 3 jumps ranging from 12- 20 feet without hitting a single jump just the knuckle to landing at, well on my way up the 240 vertical 2 minute ride. its just ridiclious that such a people would do so, well riding today i was doing slow 1's off a 20 footer and this guy and his son came out of fuckn nowhere and rode up next to me as i hit the jump and they rode over the knuckle, fuckn came 2 feet from hitting either of them and they acted like they had the right to be on it, its not a right its a responsability that has been abused by weekend "warriors", and frankly im fuckn sick of it, there is a high chance that 60- 70% of the people who ride our park dont hit any jumps just the jumps aside rails and knuckles, and a chance that 70% of the riders there dont clear the knuckle on small ass jumps

I'm on park crew at gore, and I agree, we do need a park pass. There are so many idiots cutting people off and rolling over the lips. Yesterday I watched 2 little kids (on rentals) ski up to the last jump, one right in front of the other. The first one made it to the lip (BARELY), rode over it and fell (double release), the second one ran right into the first. It was pretty funny, but people like that have no business being in the park. But honestly, the park pass will prob never happen, our manager wants the mountain to be open to everybody, everywhere since it is a "family" mountain. Or some BS like that.

And yes, linus does rip. Theres this other kid who threw a 9 on saturday and hes looks even smaller than linus. And a little girl who is also tiny who does 3's. I know her as the girl in the pink helmet, she looks like a gaper, but throws down better than some of the big boys lol. Did I ride the chairlift with you the other day?

yo if you see me say what up, we might have rode up with ya, i have an all blue jacket, black pants, super baggy, and volkl walls.
i think ive seen that little girl just huck herself when there was still a smaller jump option on the last hit.
and if the kid who did the 9 is the one im thnking of ive heard he looks like hes 10 but is actually 14, not to take away from throwin a 9 at all though.
Dr_Feelgood has a brown/blue jacket, brown pants, and kung fujas, if you rode up with him.

im an instructor there btw

Not any physical attributes, but based on skill level would be good.

Like I've seen at bike parks in the winter, they have some sort of drop to get onto the hard stuff, we should take that idea but with a rail...

I think I rode up with both of you... was he on 4frnts at the time? and you not diggin your black pants lol? right after that kid fucked himself up on the tire jib. (open boot top fracture btw)

I agree with you on some parts of this 100% but I dont think any park crew would want to sit at the top of a park and make people stop to go into a park asking for age or height. I think there should be limits on age for sure, kids need to understand its not just a place to speed through and create havoc for both themselves and people riding the park. Everyday I am cut off at least 3 times by a little kid straight riding rails and crossing through the park, but a height requirement is a little too much. I am 5 4" and I have seen kids in the park probably around 4 8" on skis and boards killing it with proper park etiquette calling drop ect. I just think people need to realize its there for people who know what there doing and not for parents telling their kids to do things.

nope thats ted your thinking of, he usually rides octolands, hes t3dizzle on here.
i was just sayin my whole outfit is really baggy haha i love it just got it this year.
also mad kids hurt themselves on teh tire jib this weekend, one of the snowboard instructors hurt his knee, another snowboarder overshot it by like 20 feet, the kid who broke his leg.

word, its actually mad fun, and a huge improvement from gores past parks, but kids dont know whats on teh other side cause its so tall
