Have any of you ever mounted your bindings with heelecoils? It seems like a good idea, so your bindings could be interchangable. I was wondering if they effect the performance of the binding at all.
unless you retarded you wont strip them.. make sure there put in right and have the right hardwear there shouldnt be a prob.. i might have it done aswell.snowboards have them aswell as line skis so im sure they will be fine.
oh, threaded inserts. actually, you may be wrong^. all snowboards and lines inserts are laminated into the core durring layup, not just threaded in after its built. i dont see any real reason why they would pull out thou, and you could always shoot some epoxy in the hole before drilling them in. hell, you may even be able to do that for a reg ski for reactors.
yeah, i would doubt it be a problem, but i would definatly use epoxy to keep them from movin very time you took the bindings off. it would be interesting to get a pair of old skis (or even 2x4s!) and see how the heelcoil+epoxy method worked with the reactors. that would be so dope if it didnt pul out, cause you could do that un most skis (not the 1080s, foam) and still use the lines. hell, you could insert a couple for an adjustable stance.
i talked to my shop tech today and he said its not a good idea... but he is older and not as optimistic so who knows test it first. thats what imna do.
Definitely dont do it. Theyre used for if you ALREADY stripped the holes out, you can drop em in, and theyll work to remount the screws. Dont do it unless theyre shitty skis you wont mind drilling a few times...
And They Say There's A Marajuana Problem!... There's No Problem, Everyone Has It...
wait, aren't helicoils just for when you get yer bindings remounted or pull your bindings out. its just in there to keep you from rippin em off again. i definately wou;dn't interchange bindings.

snowboard inserts are built in so are the line insert. a hellicoil is not. I have seen many strip and never have seen a snowboard insert strip. oh thoose who say it is a good idea have you ever put one in a ski before?
That's such a terrible idea. I had them but in when I tore a tele binding out of one of my skis. It lasted about two months of hard skiing the tore copletely out and once they are out you've got a huge hole.
Also as to the idea of using epoxy. You're not really suppose to use that stuff if you've got a foam core. I've heard it will actually melt some foams.
