Heel rip out after heely coil

So I've got a pair of surface green lifes with fks 120 bindings and managed to pull out the heel piece when mounted regularly and again after having the screws coiled. I'm curious if these things are pretty much fucked now or if there's other options I could look into. Remounting farther back apparently isn't an option that any ski tech I've talked to would do. Just seeing if I can milk any more time out of these things

You won't be able to do a mount anywhere near the original damage, maybe you could try a center mount? Why did they pull out originally? Just force or was there core damage before?

just force as far as I'm aware. and they were center mounted. I know that might be odd but they were my one ski quiver in SD where there isn't a whole lot of snow.

How many mounts do you have on them? And did you use the same shop for both mounts? The bindings shouldn't just rip out unless you bailed super hard or their was previous core damage

Took them to a local shop to get them mounted. Pulled out the heel piece in Vail and a shop in Silverthorrne put it back on with the coil. there's was no core damage I'm aware of. The guy in Silverthorne made it sound like Surface was notorious for soft cores. They just have the one mount.

I do not claim to always stay on 2 feet so there were probably some good crashes in there, but momma always said if you're not falling you're not skiing.

Honestly I would send surface an email, it depends on what you've been doing, but they might warranty them, or maybe get you a deal on a new pair. Your bindings shouldn't just rip out of the ski if there isn't core damage or really really heavy use. You could try to mount them at recommended, which I think is 5 cm back from center on that ski

Already shot them a couple emails over this and another set I got from them and haven't ever heard back but they have had some time put on them so I'm not too butthurt over the fact. But unfortunately no shop around will touch them since the holes are so wide with the coil ripping out

if you are feeling lucky you could try mounting them back further yourself since they sound like a trophy now but your probably fucked. Had the same thing happen twice before on well loved skis. Both times i think i got water in the core that degraded the wood.

That is exactly why I never recommend heli coils. You would have been better to just move the mount slightly after the first rip out. Now it's going to be really hard to fill the holes and the mount will have to be further from the original. Sucks but hopefully this can help others in the futre.

is it still do-able though? Just turn them into a big mt. pow set-up?

and another question, whats the best way to get the coil off the screw? things are on there pretty damn well

Yeah it is still doable. Hopefully it will be a clean rip out again. That way the holes just have to be sealed which is harder then a normal rip out as the holes are bigger. To get the coils off if they are really suck try to clamp the coil in a vice not too tight and try to turn the screw then.
