Heckled for heckling...

I was at kirkwood about 2 weeks ago, going up chair 4 on the backside. Theres a fun little hollywood rock drop under the chair, as we were coming up on the drop a skier goes through the gates and is about to drop. Naturally me and my boys start yelling "SEND IT!!!" "DO A FLIP!!!" "YOU WONT!!!" standard stuff ya know. Well apparently thats not ok at kirkwood....the lady standing at the drop immediately looked up and yelled back "Shut the fuck up!!!" whilst multiple people on the run started heckling us, "you wouldnt do it so shut it!!!" "leave her alone she'll go if she wants!!!" it was a weird vibe after that, cmon people, wheres the stoke??

rant over

Heckling is usually good motivation to send it IMO. That being said, if the drop was significantly outside of her ability level I could see how it could have been received as yall making fun of her. Either way, skiing is a spectator sport, especially when your skiing under the chairlift. Sounds like she either needs to take the stick out of her backside or just stay home if shes that easily offended.

I love when people tell me to do stuff from the lift, I'll either give it my best shot and most likely eat shit or yell back that I'll wait for them to go first. But every once in a while, Ill land it and ride straight to my car to go home. No point in skiing anymore after that, i peaked

Big diff in being an asshole to someone who is in over their head and gettin rowdy for someone who's down to get rowdy.

I play golf rules. I don't like to yell during the setup. After a stomp tho, I'm all about it.

Fuck those people. That little chair 4 drop is the perfect entry for a ton of newbies who are working their way up to being adventurous. Sounds like that lady and her friends are pussies. If you don't wanna hear stoke, don't approach a drop directly underneath the chair. Especially at kirkwood

If I was there I'd be heckling alongside you. Hit me up next time you're at the wood! I'm there most weekends

what a pussy. sounds like she needs to get off the mountain. getting heckled is park of the fun! my first pow day i tomahawked down a run and was so embarrassed only to hear "WOOOO GET PITTED!!!!" from the chair lift. i got stoked and confident again to get up and keep learning how to ride powder

i have a positive-shouting-only policy on the lift. also i like the comment above about golf etiquette: stfu beforehand but yell whatever you want afterward

but on the other hand, that's the risk/reward of getting rowdy under the lift. the peanut gallery is there to judge you, for better or worse, so you better bring your game face

You were called out. So, did you ski down there like a baller and throw down or were they correct and you're just a bullshitter?

GET IN THE HOLE

Man the number of times I've unexpected landed right in the bomb hole and wipe out cus of it... I love getting heckled, especially as a solo skier. Makes my day no matter what it's for

The other day someone at big sky yelled he'd give 100 bucks to someone who backflips the big jumps. Man I wish I could've found him afterwards I would not mind an extra Benny

Right???! I was so confused, also she had to ride through the ropes to get to the spot, word I’m always looking for likeminded skiers to rip with

Hey OP, is this the spot? I found a video of my buddy dropping it right after our big storm at the end of January. Kind of a shame they rope it off so you can't get a little more speed.

I feel self-conscious over my lack of stoke. Needs more shouting

Nope. I was on a mission to better snow that run, also I would never put myself in a situation where I may be in over my head directly under the lift, if I’m hitting a line under the lift I’m gonna make it known to the whole mountain that I’m boutta stomp a line, also I’m the best skier on the mountain so ya know ?‍♂️

That’s the one!! Super fun little drop, but yeah they keep Kirkwood a safe space now lol

Maybe it's me but people heckling me before I land my line/trick is annoying as fuck. Especially saying something like DO A FLIP YOU WONT.

Last week, I barked from the lift at one of our OG’s hitting the main jump line and got laughed at by the entire chair behind me. You can’t say shit on the lift anymore...

honestly feel this haha. people can say whatever they want about how corny golf gets sometimes but when you watch someone stick it within like 3-5 of the pin on a par 3 or epic fairway shot, you gotta give props

If they laugh at you for barking they aren’t core, probably ride 140s

heckle the fuck out of me to try that backflip I never planned on attempting shit makes me hype af and If I land it or not everybody still gonna be stoked and vise versa

Love seeing people huck stuff maybe a little out of their comfort zone after a little bit of heckling, probably wouldn't have tried it without the extra chirp here and there

I try to keep it positive so people dont get all butthurt, I just yell "you got it" when I see people eyeing somthing

If you are skiing a hollywood line. for example anything that is under a chairlift, you 100% have to accept heckling. if you chose to ski a hollywood line you best be comin correct with some tricks, and a MF'n backflip fosho. This is tradition.

Right? I saw this clip flying around Instagram of this dude hitting a cliff line up at Whistler in front a huge lift line, everyone was going nuts he was stomping backies it was great

for real I feel like beforehand it’s annoying most of the time but i can appreciate it if it’s like “fuck yea stomp that shit!!”

Yuuuuuuup, that’s what I’m sayin

people yelling stupid shit at me from the lift just makes me want to prove that i’m not shit at skiing but that only applies to park not pow i ain’t dropping cliff i do be throwing down for the people on the lift

I'm question is, why are you such pussies that you stopped heckling her?

Keep yelling at her and the gapers on the lift, call them out. "ITS THE HOLLYWOOD, YOU FUCKING GAPERS! GO BACK TO TEXAS IF YOU CAN'T TAKE THE HECKLING!"

There, just gave you two lines for the next time the meanie tourists hurt your feelings.

Got told “yo do something crazy” at PC and ended up stomping my first attempt at a Sw Rodeo 5. It was honestly clean as shit and to this day I don’t even know where I pulled that from but I thank the hecklers! Heckling pushes the sport.

Most chairlift heckling is good except “do a flip”. The best is when people make fun of you from the lift. One time this racer kid that’s was probably 5 years of age was making fun of my brother and I from the lift, but then my 12 year old brother laces a sw lip back 2 and immediately shut the kid up. It was amazing to watch

Shes probably just some jerry taking herself too seriously cause she dropped a ton of money on black crows or something. We have those all over CO. It's like they go skiing to specifically NOT have fun... idk dude just keep heckling people. Real skiers get stoked on that shit.

Test the waters and cheer on the good riders. Ya wont get hassled for that. Heckling is fun, but I wouldnt have used « you wont ». Maybe a yeah buddy would have been seen in good faith

I found who can’t do a flip

I most likely have the Motorhead cranked up to 11, so feel free to yell whatever the hell you want, I can't hear shit.

Landing in the bomb hole sucks - I’ve gotten a lot better since but still...

I always yell 'do something cool' to people but rarely do people actually do something cool. if they do though I get always hyped for my own run after. def an important part of keeping the stoke going

OOF that looks painful. That's how my first cork attempts went but it was a slushy spring day. That looked hard af. Ever get the cork around?

Yes I’m a corking man now

I always try and send stoke from the chair. Not act like a bully. If someone wrecks, they were probably pushing their limits. That deserves some cheers.
