http://www.kcra.com/news/21913624/detail.htmlLove that California tax dollars were spent for a "long sting" to net 4 people giving lessons at a Vail coporation owned resort.

Officials are warning people that ski and snowboard instructors must have proper business licenses and permits after a recent sting operation netted four arrests.

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office said deputies and representatives of Heavenly Ski Resort conducted the sting operations and targeted people who advertised lessons for profit.

Officials said four people were arrested in connection with the sting -- two people from the local area, one from Albany, and one from Carson City, Nev.

The four people had neither businesses licenses from El Dorado County nor permission from Heavenly to operate a business for profit on their leased property, according to the sheriff's office.

All four were charged with misdemeanor crimes and released on promise to appear citations, officials said.

yup thats just what california needs to help their debt...sting operations at ski resorts. HAHAHA!

heavenly is over rated anyways. god damn sky chair always down due to wind and thats where the goods are...except motts. but if youre on california side no luck there.

bootleg park lessons are so hot right now!

ill do a full day private park lesson for $200, 50 extra per kid. The resort will get $250per hour for a private, and thats not even in the park, from a good park skier.

I am not condoning these 4 people, but for a big corp to flex their muscles to get the government to do such a costly sting is ricockulous.

They have security, have security pull the person's ticket, or even call the sheriff. A long and costly sting is ridiculous. The sheriff would laugh at a small business if they wanted them to spend so much time for such petty acts.

I am usually about following the law, but this is bureautic BS at its worst. Oh no, a few people are trying to make a few bucks teaching others how to ski - let's teach them a lesson on taxpayer money. What a joke. You have to have a business license to give lessons now? This country really is going down the crapper. Stuff like this makes me angry. Maybe I missed some key element here, but wow..,

....on government land too.
As long as both parties pay for the services of using heavenly's amenities, I cannot see how this is appropriate use of tax money.

Yes, but it is leased land. I am the OP and find it disgusting that a "long lasting sting" occured when if a average person had something like a breakon and several thousand dollars stolen the cops probably would do very little, but, given that Heavenly is leasing the land, paying the employees to run the lifts, paying the fuel for the lifts, I have no problem with Heavenly security booting people found to be doing this, or even calling the cops.

That the police would spend so much time on such a petty issue when they dont do **** for the average citizen is BS, and that Vail corporation would throw their weight around to get them to (if you have ever had a breakin you know the cops arent going to do ****, they could take fingerprints but they wont take the effort) ****** me off.

i'm pretty sure the fact that you're on government land (forest service) is the reason they can conduct such a "sting"...there is like a clause in the lease of the forest service land that only allows certain groups to conduct lessons for any kind of gain...i had to go to a training session in vail and they talked about how "underground lessons" are "dangerous to those involved" and how they pose a "serious threat to vail resorts"...i'm not really sure how that all works, but it just seems like vail can't stand to lose any money to anyone, hence wasting taxpayers dollars to bust 4 people...

First the disclaimer. My statement DOES NOT REPRESENT THE OPINION OR POLICIES OF VAIL RESORTS OR ANY OF ITS AFFILIATES, COMPANIES, EMPLOYEES, OR EXECUTIVES.

I am a tech at a shop owned by Vail resorts. Resorts are exposed to a huge liability just from people using there facilities. If someone gets hurt in a lesson run by Vail, the resort has a little more protection against a lawsuit. If its an "underground lesson" they are less protected. Lawsuits are the single biggest threat, not loss of profit from the resort not getting paid for the lesson.

I'm not gonna say that Vail is not a big evil corporation, because in a way they are. They do like their profits and are just as greedy as Marker, K2, Burton, or any other big players in the industry. Ya, they are kinda the corporate devil but lawsuits suck balls. Just the other day some dipshit pulled a binding out landing switch and tried to blame it on my mount even though I did everything right.

There's many reasons California is so far in debt...

Let's get an Austrian steroid head actor for our governor and let all the illegal immigrants in to live off the tax money that only ~50% of the residents of our state actually pay! I love Tahoe, but the best thing that could happen to that state is if an earthquake actually sends it sailing by itself into the Pacific. Doomed! Unless the DEA stops shutting down / harassing the medicinal marijuana dispensaries so that the state can make some easy $$$$

OK so if i want to teach a friends child how to ski, and i get compensated for providing my time and knowledge into improving their childs skiing yet i am not an employee of the chosen resort, I AM THEREFORE A CRIMINAL AND CLEARLY A NATIONAL SECURITY RISK!!!!!! please go and fuck yourselves coz you are so moronic there is no definition for you. i should accept a nobel ski prize for the highest honour in instructing, yet have no track record. makes sense just like vails policy.
