Head for the Hills

Well I just got my Head for the Hills, dvd the other day, I just watched it.. twice. I almost felt I had to make a thread about it. By far my favorite ski movie I have seen. I'm not claiming the skiing is the best, although it is ridiculous, but the feel of the movie was just amazing. I don't know how many of you watched 'Skiing is_" but Head for the Hills is what skiing really is. The obvious thing to comment on is Will and Andy's section which is of course ridiculous. But there are so many sick segments in it. My personal favorite has to be the "Redneck Rippers". I really think everyone should at least find a way to watch this. It has something for everyone including your parents! Just makes me want to give up uni tomorrow and be a ski bum. Amazing.
This seasons film's are all good. For the sake of comparison here's what i think. 5 second reviews..
Head for the Hills - 10/10 - I don't think any ski film ever made me this stoked, although 'Believe' was pretty close.
Journal - 9.5/10 - Charley Ager! For me has to be perfomance of the year. Sick pow, sick park, sick urban. But also sick performances from the whole crew. Max Hill and Frank Raymond kill it.
Turbo - 9/10 - Incredible skiing but for me didn't have the 'feel' of the above two. Not a single weak section in it. Riding level blew my mind. Great editing too but it lacked reality for me. Almost too perfect.
Such is Life - 7/10 - So sick in parts but found it a bit long with some slow sections. Cosco and LJ were the standouts, but sick skiing from all. Editing was a bit weak though.
Slamina - 8/10 - Not really an 'Am' movie anymore. So sick! Wallisch, Stepp, Witt Foster, Henrik Harluat are the killer sections that spring to mind.
Road to Nowhere - 7/10 - Really enjoyable to watch. Some seriously sick snowboarding (which I don't normally enjoy watching). Amazing Urban! Could have used some more variety.
p.s to Mods: I put a copy of this in gear talk by mistake which you can delete if you can be arsed,

I love Meatheads! May be just cause I'm from the East Coast too, but Their films always have a lot of characters and are just great. I need to get a copy of HFTH.

good review. actually the freeskier movie review was pretty well on too. pointed out all of the goods in the movies and the few downsides. ive seen all of the movies from this year, but i know everyone hasnt, so thanks for that

I have seen all of those but head for the hills (ill probably pick it up later) but I think you guys need to watch such is life again. Its a really amazing movie. By far the best editing of this year and it has a really good feel to it. Not to say one of the best soundtracks ive ever heard in a movie. I think Such is Life deserves alot more credit than it gets.

I could not agree more, Ive watched that more times than any other movie i got this year. Its so much fun and gets you so stoked to ski. It also makes you look around your house or when your walking around and be like, damn i think that could be some kind of a jib. So much creativity and originality. Loved this movie 10/10 solid!

besides the fact that they didn't even have HFTH in it!!! I still can't believe that they would leave this film out. Freeskier can't get stoked on some of the best skiing of the year only because it's on the east coast? Lame freeskier, way lame...

head for the hills was sooo dope...meatheads crew makes the chillest movies

The ski sundown segment was real dirty, i even snagged some shots in the bonus segment "claim"

im asking for it for Christmas. I like to see different stuff than just the normal europe and alaskan shit you usually see in ski movies.

so right about the creativity. Thats what makes it so great. Its the kind of shit that anybody can hit. Yeah people ripping 70 degree alaskan faces and fun to watch but its not something that i can do right now. What I like about skiing is you can have fun on anything and thats what this movie showed. If its raining and there is no park no pow I still somehow have a good day.

I'll add Massive and Hunting Yeti to my list:Massive - 9/10 - Amazing skiing, I like more urban to balance thing but thats not what this was about. I loved the soundtrack too and the feel of the main movie. But some of it was cheesy and the titles were weak in my opinion. Still sick. Everyone should see it. I thought Believe was better though.Hunting Yeti - 7.5/10 - Skiing was unreal and editing was great. It was a bit too short and a bit repetitive though. And the webisodes took away from any 'wow' moments. Idea was better.
