I'm in the market for a >$700 video camera that films in HD and preferably has internal memory or large SD card slots. i dont want to dick around with tape I just want a small camera that will film a decent quality shot (nature, summer and winter sports) and that transfers files easily to my computer.

Can you guys help point me in the right direction?

I'd say look for a HV30 SD equivalent...from a quick google search i found the Canon HF200, sounds like what you're looking for.

hey man ill sell you my panasonic sd100 it shoots in full hd pretty equilivant to the hv30 but it records to sd cards i have a 16 gig and 8 gig so you can get a few hours on them, its essentually brand new ive shot less than 2 hours with it original stickers are on it still, uplpoded at most 3 mins of footage, if could pass as brand new if returned or sold, dont have the paintance to deal with AVCHD its on amazon for 877 $ right now so we could work something out price wise since its essuantually brand new, shoots awesom pictures with amazing manual controles, also has a view finder wich is a huge plus

I was wondering about the difference between a camera recording onto a tape and recording onto SD or a hard drive. Is there a color or quality difference? Everyone reccomends the HV 20 or 30 and it is a camera utilizing tape, which i think means you have to use a firewire port. Am i right about this? Plus buying tapes would be expensive
