HD tape deck help with final cut

I have an fx1 and when I try to upload with an hd tape (with hd footage) It will not recognize the tape deck, but it will with regular dv tapes. I tried to use google but got no answers. The version of final cut pro is 4.5 or also known as FCP HD.

I guess I sound like a nub, but how do you get the uploaded footage to be the highest quality, because the footage I have done has a scratchy appearance, (sorta like really thin lines going through it.)

I use final cut 5, but my capture presets always are: HDV - Apple intermediate codec, Firewire NTSC Basic.

Were you talking to me or the guy you quoted?

but anyways the fx1 is an hdv camera, so it has an hdv tape deck........right?.........

I'm assuming this is a pirated copy you're using? I had tons of problems with my pirated software. I just bought final cut and all the problems are gone. Maybe looking into getting FCE? I'm pretty sure its just final cut pro without the other parts of the 'final cut studio' software suite, but i've only used it a few times so i'm not sure

It's not pirated. My friend who bought it from someone for pretty cheap gave it to me.

go to the final cut pull down button and go to "easy setup" then find the setting you want, make sure to check the show all button

My camera has the iLINK HDV > DV. So it converts it into DV allowing me to upload it, but it isn't in HD, which doesn't really help me. There is no straight HDV option.
