what is a decient HD flash memory camcorder around 500$ - 600$? does any one have any experience or preference with any HD cams? sorry if this is a repost.

from what i hear/know, flash memory isn't as good as hdv right now.. maybe in a few years though

For that price, i would go with an HV30. Its HDV, not flash, but the quality is worth the trouble of tape. I borrowed my friends flash camera once, it shot 720p but the quality was terrible.

I would searously check out the HV30. Its cheap and easy to use, but also has some higher end functionality and is even used by independent filmmakers. If you are more interested in learning than making good video, you might want to look at something like a GL2 or DVX, you wont have as good resolution but you will learn more camera functionality. Do some research and search the site, theres alot of threads like this

I don't understand why anyone would choose an HC9 over an HV30. The Canon is way cheaper and it offers variable frame-rates. HC9 is just more overpriced sony crap.

Well i have almost the exact opposite opinion of asian allen. Tapes kinda suck but the technology is better. I got an Xh a1 over an hmc 150. You dont need to spend on the expencive tapes, (sony premiums from wallmart is what i run, never have dropouts) I would deffanatly go for an hv 30 for your pricerange im slightly canon bias, but the quality on that camera is amazing for what you pay.
