Having a crew...

...Must be nice

I hate being the only one i know who ski's park. Dont get me wrong i have friends who ski and board and go with them often but they would all prefer to be riding the rest of the mountain rather than the park. The ones that do go in the park just want to do it once or twice a day. I dont like skiing alone so i ski with my friends either way but i never get to spend the time in the park i want to and never have anyone to really push me.

Just sayiin.

i feel ya man, I went from havin an awesome crew of riding friends in tahoe skiin over a 100 days a year.. an now im back in NH its a joke i dont even get motivated to ride anymore cause no one around wants to go nor do they push my riding limits .. its tough when you dont got a good group of friends with the same mindset pushing you to ride harder

just meet people where you ski. When I started skiing I didn't know anybody else. I just started talking to people at local hills and now they have all become my friends and we shred together and chill off the hill too.

Well at least you got a crew to ride with and they still go to the park sometimes. Dont worry bout it, just keep skiing with them, if you spent all the time in the park, you would get hurt, theres no doubt about it.

^ yea but riding park is what i love to do.

Next time i go to the hill im going to chat to some guys.

Dont get me wrong i like riding with my friends all mountain. I just wish some had the same passion for park and skiing in general that i do.

i only really get to ski with my park friends a few times a year.

but i have 2 bros, 2 years younger and 4 years younger that are great to ski with, in park and out. i guess im lucky.

but chat people up; whenever i notice a NS sticker i make a point to talk to them. in fact i met a really cool kid the other day and one of the first things he asked me was 'do you have a NS account?'.

yeah, just try to find some kids at your school or in your town or whatever that like park and try to carpool up with them.

i'm fortunate enough to have a ton of friends that all absolutely kill it, so i'm continuously being pushed which i think makes me want to ski more and more each weekend.

this thread reminds me of the "I am not a skier" thread. Did you read that?

There is legit no one at my school haha. Im probably the best park skier at my school and im just average.

Also yea i did read it lol, i also saw some similaritie. Only difference is im still stoked to ski all the time.

i really enjoy lapping the park by myself every once in a while.

just turn my music up a little louder and go at whatever pace i'm feeling.

but i know what you mean. i definitely would want tot do that all the time.

This year most of the people I ride with either barely made it up or moved away. As a result, I've spent about 95% of this season riding alone. And even the times when I find someone to ride with they only want to hit the park once or twice if that. I don't mind it but as far as progressing my park skiing goes... well I haven't really.
For skiing outside the park tho I prefer riding solo. Just turn up the beats and go where I want.

Completely agree. I just find the people who i end up riding with dont have the same lvoe for skiing i do. Im the onyl one i know who is constantly asking people if they want to go up ( i cant drive my self yet and my parents will only drive one way) and no one wants to go as much as me.

And yea, skiing with people really translates into progression. I guess it differs from person to person but i notice a big increase when there are people around better than me. The times when istep up the most is when i end up lapping the park with people who are better (not purposefully lapping but we happing to be going at the same pace at the same time) thats always when i try to go bigger and bettr, i dont want to look like a bitch haha. Or if im hiking a rail and someone else is, they might be doing stuff that will insr to do more techinical tricks.

I used to do that. But i didn't get any better, because i didn't have anybody to push me to get better. This year my mom made me join a team and i am kinda glad she did because i am skiing with awesome kids that all push each other everyday to get better.

Yea i know, thats the plan. Dont get me wrong im a social guy and pretty likeable. Its just harder to go meet new people when everytime you do go skiing its with your friends so your not going to ditch them to go meet new people you know.

i usually ski with boarders, we film and learn new tricks together alot.

But this year (2nd year skiing), ive met alot of other park skiers simply by either one of us saying hi or riding the lift with them. Usually then id ride with them for the day and would either result on me improving a trick or learning something new that i was afraid of before. Skiing with other skiers who are better then you is the best motivation in my opinion.

I hear ya! Most of my friends don't ski OR board and those that do board rarely come out. So most of the time I'm skiing with my dad or by myself which doesn't make it easy to progress in park. I'm lucky to have a car and be able to go out whenever i have time so when my friends do come out i usually drive.

just go out of your way to talk to people. I skied alone forever until i met this one dude who is now one of my best friends, and introduced me to an awesome group of people who i ski/ party with all the time now.

Thats pretty sick. Its true though, all of the people you dont talk to on the hill could have actually ended up being a good friend had you went out fo your way to make conversation.

But thats the thing, id like to do that its just i only ski with friends so im not going to ditch them to go make friends.

And wow, 3 girls skiers who posted in this thread. it seems everyday on NS i see more and more pink names. I wish i knew girls who shredded.

Same with me man I'm always a loner skier, I tag along with my buds every weekend but they snowboard so it's not the same, around the Midwest here like Chicago there arnt tons of freeskiers but there's enough around me to ski with every weekend or so, but I feel ya man

just start hiking a box or something. odds are some dude will start hiking it with you and youll start talking to him and then youll start skiing with him and he skis with other people so before you know it youll be skiing with a ton of other people

This was the crew at my home mountain on closing day last year. (Minus the 2 youngins up front.) You could come up alone any night of the week and always have someone to ride with. Everyone moved on or moved away this year though so the crew is about 1/4 of the size.

I miss having a crew.

Yeah i really thinking having a crew is great. You definitely need to find a group! They help you progress and are just kind of a family on the hill. Plus, when you fall, you can just laugh it off with them and try again.

Example: i broke my collarbone at the start of the season and didnt get to ski for two months. The 3rd day that i am in the park i decided i would slide the flat down box that i only conquered once before i broke my collarbone. I did it first try. (claim? not really) My friends pushed me to try it cause before i was ahuge pussy and scared of hurting myself again. Once i did it i felt so stoked and just kept hiking it with the buds. Theyre better then me but who cares, they push me and i force them to try new things.

crewz be rollin all day errr day

yea skiing with a crew is good. It also makes you through down harder. When i ski with my crew we usally have a good game of SUCK. Except my freind always wins when he starts to through some sick rodeos with grabs.

i feel your pain.. its a constant fight getting my buds to be in the park nearly as much as i want to

its always "lets go build a pow kicker!" and im like "there's not that much new snow (never is at my mountain) and look! jumps already in the park!"

basically the issue is my friends dont like trying anything new thats not above the soft

i know what you guys mean but at the same time, id rather ski with a couple friends then a 'crew' my best friend and i go up together all the time. we meet others up there but normally just say hey or do a lap with them, but we always ski together, i just hate waiting for a huge group, skiing with 8 or 9 people is just rediculous, everything takes so long.

Don't get me wrong on a good spriing day when you are just out having fun, its great to be in a big group, but for the days you want to shred and push yourself, i like skiing with just a couple of people.

I SKI ALONE.

at first i was kinda bummed, but then i realized how much more i got done skiin alone= way more laps= more training than with a crew. ski what i want when i want.

sometime i'll still ride with a few of my good homies who are down with what i'm down with, but it just isn't enjoyable for me to be waiting for kids that are pussyfootin or want to shred shitty icy bumps are wack ass tight trees. peace

uhh son. took the words rite out my mouth. I always shred with one homie who snowboards but we meet up with a ton of people thorughout the day. I HATE waiting.

I wish i had a crew. I have many friends who ride park but cos of where i live (not near any of them) i have never had a crew. it must be a much easier way to push yourself.

year ive learned this past weekend how much i appreciate having a big crew of friends to ride with in many aspects, from pushing me, to rides up, to just having someone to ski with, all the good times had together. a crew definitly makes skiing that much better! in powder i dont really care if im alone or not but when it comes to the park and an average day at the mountain having a crew of dudes is whats up

I have no crew except my brother. There is a couple of snowboarders and like 2 other skiers around me that go on at least a semi-regular basis but they can't keep up with me, even on the groomers. It'd just be a pain to wait for them, and they can't ride park either. Skiing is still super fun regardless, I've gotten sued to it.

Same with skateboarding now, when we all got into it back in like grade four a lot of kids did it. Now I know a few kids that are in college now who still skate, so I usually skate by myself with my ipod. Couldn't find anybody to skate on the super nice 60 degree day that is today so I just bombed hills by myself.

Same with surfing... I gotta find some kids who don't consider soccer the most "extreme" sport they're willing to do.

i used to only ride with a few snowboarders from my school, because litteally that was all there was where i live (missouri). but when i found out about ns i randomly found a few skiers from here, and now we ride together and it helps to me to push myself so much.

yea bro i hear ya.... i kinda got a crew but they r all snowboarders and they go 2 smaller mtns and they cant really do a whole lot so i try to meet up with ppl when i go by self to bigger mtns... like i ski loon in NH once a weekend then sometimes a smaller place on the off day and none of my friends will come to loon with me cuz their park is to big for them and they dont push themselves so its hard to try new things but i always so to myself that i want to try somehting atleast 3 times wether it b a feature thats hard of a new trick i always set that goal to get a little better... if i do that goal b 4 lunch then i go and set another... just push urself and if u talk 2 ppl will find ppl 2 chill with trust me... just b a nice guy and talk

thats fuckin sick. i have a pretty good size group of people i ride with, like 10-15 but nothing like the size of that
