Have you ever shaved your head?

One of my good friends in my youth group is going through treatment for leukemia and has gone bald. A group of about 9-10 of us guys are all shaving our heads tomorrow night in support of him. I have never really cut my hair even close to bald so do you guys have any tips/suggestions on how to go about it? Also did being bald affect you a whole lot?

2 summers ago. It just makes your head a lot cooler. it's nice because you literally dont' have to dry it, brush it, etc.

No and I never plan to. The only thing I love more than my hair is skiing. I can't imagine giving up either :3.....of course that is exaggerated, but you get the point

i shave it all the time. the best way to do it is to shave it as close as you can with clippers, and then lather up in shaving cream and take a razor to it. go slow though and don't press too hard because you don't want to cut yourself. if you do, it will bleed like a mother fucker. make sure to use lotion after you're done so your head stays soft/doesn't get dry.

that's an awesome thing you guys are doing for your friend. you're a good dude.

somehow forgot to mention this in my reply, but I wish your friend the best as he undergoes treatment.

Yeah, I did for swim team a couple months ago. First off, good on you for doing it.

Buzz your head first, then just bic it. Pretty straight forward. Use a woman's razorblade and you'll be good to go. Unless you're unfamiliar with the act of shaving, it won't be a big deal at all. Just realize that your head will get caught on your shirts when putting them on, and when you go to bed at night you'll feel wet.

Shaved my head with 5 of my friends when my mom started chemo last February.

Now today,1 year and 1 month later she had her first treatment of her 2nd round of chemo this morning (much less invasive chemo drugs than before luckily!) and I'm probably gonna shave my head again in the next 2 weeks or so. They're not even sure if this round of chemo will result in my mom's hair falling out but I'll prolly do it anyways just to show some more support and love!

Cancer fucking sucks. If you haven't had a loved one experience it or personal experience, you are really lucky. Seeing my mom go through this shit once and now today starting it again even though they don't even know if she still has cancer just sucks balls. Definitely have grown to appreciate the little things she did for me that went unnoticed my whole life a lot more.

Shaved my head ones or a school play years ago, worst mistake of life. I looked like a monkey. Your doing it for a sound course though man so respect. At lest you will save on shampoo

I looked really funky for about 1 week after I shaved my head so i wore a beanie most of the time. Once it grew back a little bit, it wasn't too bad to get used too. Also beanies stick to your short hair like velcro and literally don't come off without a good tug.

It's amazing in the summer time. I just used a 1/8" clipper attachment because if I went all the way it was like velcro. Otherwise, it is the best feeling ever to shave your head. It's actually very theraputic to do it too, I used to have a Friday ritual.

It's just hair, it will grow back.

I had hair halfway down my back in HS, then I got bored and decided to shave it off. Take it down with clippers first, before you use the razor. The first time I had a straight razor done, it hurt like hell. Watch out for sunburns. They suck too.

I've let my hair grow out a few times, and each time I keep coming back to a close clipper cut. I prefer it this way now.

I had to this year while i am going through chemo (almost halfway through it) at first i hated the way it looked but then i buzzed it again shorter and it looks alright.

I would recommend buzzing it with a 1. Definitely makes me feel less confident with myself and recently my girlfriend broke up with me, not because of it, but i am sure it was a self conscience "he isn't the same person anymore and doesn't look like it either"

sorry for the rant i wish your friend the best of luck you guys are really good people for supporting him!

i wish that i could shave my head, i want to feel the wind on my scalp. except people would mistake for sinead oconnor so i probably shouldnt

i have had a buzz cut for as long as i can remember

definitely easier to manage than longer hair

Having a fresh bean on is awesome.

Great reason to do it. Walking around with all your baldie buddies will get some laughs for sure.

yes last summer, i accidentally took my sideburns straight off and looked like damn fool for 3 weeks

I have before. But it was for swim team. It's definitely a weird feeling. But we actually shaved our heads down to razors and shaving cream

one day my friends were going to give me a hair cut. they fucked it up really bad in a few spots, so we decided to give me a mohawk and I ended up with some crooked patchy skid mark. walked around with it for a day in public places, got a lot of weird looks. then I shaved to the wood. it feels pretty nice to stroke but your head gets hella cold and it looks weird unless you're black or asian or a supremacist.wouldn't recommend it.

vibes to your friend, you are doing a good thing

i separated my shoulder and buzzed my (not shaved just short) and its pretty sweet. like everyone is saying you dont have to do any maintenance and you never have to worry about it, just make sure you have a hat

I did once. I have a really weird shape back of my head. Looked terrible. I rocked a mohawk for awhile though.
