This is an abuse of keyboard cat, it doesn't even make any sense. Keyboard cat is for when people screw up in embarassing fashion. 9/11 was a complete success, in so far as it accomplished everything the perpetrators were trying to accomplish. Keyboard cat does not apply.
 
idk if i would say it was a "success" that really would offend a lot of ppl here IMO, just saying, not trying to start anything in here
 
I don't think you can even argue that it wasn't a success. They succeeded in doing something evil. They set out to kill people and bring down the WTC. They did exactly that. Their goals were horrendous, but that does not change the fact that they succeeded in achieving them.
 
in their eyes yes it was a success for them, but to us it was a disaster and something i know ill never forget, i still remember exactly what i was doing when i heard about it
 
It was definitely a success. It definitely affected my Dad. At the time he was working for AON insurance. He had one of the nicest, best bosses in a long time and she was killed in the towers. He also knew guys who were in the second tower to get hit and they said they saw the first one get struck and ran down 70+ stories of stairs, caught a cab and got out of NYC immediately. Not really a funny thing in my eyes. Thousands of people lost their lives and it had a big effect on America as a whole.

wow dude, sorry but that is soooooo far off. one of the main goals of terrorism is to inform the world of the cause. they didnt attack because they hate christians. that's what most people think, but it's wrong. they didn't attack because they just want to kill people either. their reasons were more complex, and the majority of americans don't know why they actually did it. 9/11 is considered by intellectuals to be a spectacular failure
 
this is horrible. i cant get over the fact how many times i see the faces of demons and satonic looking figures in the fire/ smoke. start at 31 in the video for example. when the camera zooms in look for a face. creeps the hell outta me.
 
I don't believe that at all. I believe they attacked to kill infidels and frighten the West. I believe that in so doing, they succeeded. But at the most basic level, they wanted to fly planes into buildings, thereby killing people and destroying said buildings, and mission accomplished there. Now, on the larger scale, I agree that terrorism has a pretty much 100% failure rate, in that it tends to actually strengthen the resolve of the people being "terrorized", at least in so far as fighting terrorists are concerned. As far as complex reasons, to quote a line from TWW, "your ridiculous search for rational reasons for why someone straps a bomb to their chest is ridiculous."
 
First of all, one of the primary reasons for terrorism is to scare the victims to the point of pressuring their own government. have we put pressure on our government in favor of the terrorists? not that i know of. my history teacher gave us a more full explanation of the motivations last year; unfortunately i don't really remember it, but it was more complicated than 'killing infidels.'
and the quote doesn't apply. complex doesn't mean rational.
however, i think the rationale behind terrorism is surprisingly good. step 1: attack a population and make the motivation for the attack known. step 2: continue attacking until the population breaks down and pressures its government to change, achieving the original goal. but it's very difficult for terrorists to make their cause known and continue the attacks, which is why terrorism rarely works.
 
You're forcin' it. Terrorism has many reasons. Name one "intellectual" who claims it was a spectacular failure. You make such broad statements with nothing to back it up. Fact of the matter is, regardless of who is actually responsible for these actions, it got the name out, big time. The average American had no idea who Al-Qaeda, Osama Bin Laden, Khalid Mohammad or even what the Muslim religion was (even though now most of them are terrible connections to car-bombings and the extremist groups). Their job was to instill fear, they did that as well. I know several people who refused to fly for years after 9/11, and the number of seats being filled dropped drastically. So, wow dude, sorry but that is sooooo far off.
 
i know i'm making broad claims, i've admitted that. this is meant to be more of a conceptual argument i guess. of course they got the name out, but was the goal really to get people to stop flying? did they have something against the airline industry? no, they want to convert the world to islam/punish those who are christians/american. i haven't seen any action taken by christian americans to pressure the nation to convert to islam. so what was successful about it? that they scared us, made us hate them, and gave us an excuse to invade? for some reason i doubt that was the outcome they were hoping for. terrorism is warfare; if you just attack once and only temporarily knock down the enemy, have you really won?
 
No. The goal of jihadists is to kill the infidel not to convert them. I think the outcome they were looking for was to "terrorize" hence the name terrorist
