Has freeskiing defeated snowboarding?

Back in the day before half of yall were even born, i had to sneak into the terrain parks, boarding was the "Cool" thing and it seemed like skiing was on the decline.

But in recent years it seems like there's fewer and fewer snowboarders on the hill and especially in the park. Three kings lift at PC seems like a 4:1 ski to board ratio and none of the boarders are really throwing down. I never see boarders really ripping the big mountain stuff these days at snowbird either.

Am I crazy or is it just utah?

Very much depends on the place. My local hill has shifted greatly towards skiing the last couple years but head across the state and its more snowboards. Different trends for different regions.

depends where you are it feels like my brother and I are the only skiers in the park some days. Snowboarding is def still the big thing in most areas I think, partly due to cost imo

My hills got a good balance but 2-3years ago when I just started skiing (switched from snowboarding) there was pretty much only boarders in the park. I think it depends on the day also at my hill

I feel like at my home resort snowboarders still throw down more than skiers. And when I’ve gone to Woodward this year there have definitely been more snowboarders.

Maybe they found a better spot just down the road.

Never been to Utah myself but from what I can tell it seems like snowboarders tend to prefer Brighton and skiers tend to prefer PC?

Ton of boarders at Brighton for sure.

I do think there are more skiers in general than boarders in the park. Freeskiing is cool rn

I’ve noticed there’s a whole bunch more little skiers at hyland than snowboarders and they’re getting pretty fucking good

I second that. I was gonna say I feel like the real little youth is way more ski based now, but maybe I have no idea what I’m talking ab

The snowboarders in the park at eldora are mostly good and the skiers are mostly bad (like myself).

You can argue eldora is built way more for snowboarding than it is for skiing tho so this makes sense

Can't speak for the park but Big Mountain skis are generally better tools than boards unless it's powder. Of course Travis Rice can throw down anything the skiers can.

there’s as many snowboarders at bridger as there is black people in bozeman

I haven't rode at Eldora in about two seasons, what are they doing to make it more snowboarder focused?

Lotta pole jams, berms, hips to rails, rail transfers etc. just stuff people would deem “snowboard features”

granted it ain’t Woodward Tahoe but you get the picture

So basically they aren’t “snowboard” features you just prefer a more traditional park and aren’t creative enough to have fun on a creative park?

Are you gonna explain why its a bad take with evidence or anecdote or conjecture or are you just keep saying my threads are bad takes?

You just called snowboarders our enemies, Ima go ahead and pass.

Lmao idk how you got all that from what I said. Anyone I ski with can vouch, I hit features in the weirdest ways possible. But in terms of the way it’s setup, the features are more conducive to snowboard tricks than ski tricks. A drop transfer is easier to hit on a board than skis and if you think it isn’t you’ve got less brain cells than my left nut.

I had no problem with a drop transfer on skis never tried it on a snowboard so idk. Also pole jams on skis are mad fun all though rainbow rails that are pole jams are a little challenging

Yeah I totally agree. There ain’t specific snowboard features but I’ve always thought some features have diff flows, speeds, or angles that could b easier on a board. But I gotta get better at hitting drop transfers lmao

That’s how it was back in my day, half pipe full of snowboarders to pass by at the end of the park, park full of boarders and rails, not much of a jump line literally made me feel out of place, the long straight skis didn’t help either, nowadays however skiing got boarding beat hands down, features everywhere, jump lines and the ability to take off, land and ski switch, the mix of skiing styles from dads that rip to the new school wave, the progression of tricks has made skiing waaay more interesting to watch than it was 30 years ago

Quebec feels about 50-50. Half my friends snowboard. Half the park crew snowboards. Almost exactly half the people in the park snowboard. It is a delicate ecosystem that is not to be disrupted.

Skiing passed by snowboarding around 2005 when vanular and wallisch started boofing sintered marawanas and today its no contest

The only cool snowboarder is mason aguirre.

skiing lends itself to big spins so much more naturally than snowboarding does.

if you watch a snowboarder try to spin a dub 14 or higher they literally look like they have to huck the vag out of themselves in order to spin that much and when they land it looks like they have no way to slow down their rotation gracefully so it looks like shit.

snowboarding has to accept the fact that no snowboarder is ever going to land a steezy 2160 like koivisto did recently.
